In chronic diseases that make it impossible to move, pressure ulcers often develop. Like skin ulcers, they can lead to epidermal necrolysis. GranuGEL is a preparation intended to stimulate the skin for regenerative processes.

What is GranuGEL?

GranuGEL is an externally applied hydrocolloid gel. It is a hydrogel dressing intended for the treatment of deep wounds with fluid or dry necrosis. GranuGEL works by hydrating dead tissues and stimulating autolysis inside the wound. As a result, the preparation helps to clear the necrosis. The use of GranuGEL together with a related medical device, Granuflex, promotes the stimulation of macrophage activity, which will stimulate the granulation process.

The indications for the use of GranuGEL gel are the treatment of wounds of full or incomplete skin by a doctor. These include pressure ulcers, ulcers and burns, among others. However, GranuGEL should not be used for third degree burns as no studies have shown its safety in such cases. After application, the gel provides a moist environment in which wound healing processes begin due to the autolysis of necrotic tissues.

GranuGEL – how to use

GranuGEL should be used as follows:

  1. Before use, wash the wound thoroughly with one of the routine agents – distilled water or physiological solution.
  2. Then dry the skin around the wound, untouched by lesions.
  3. For first use, after opening the tube, remove the protective ring and pierce the membrane with the outside of the cap.
  4. It is important that GranuGEL is applied directly to the wound, avoiding filling it above the level of the healthy skin around it.
  5. Additionally, it is worth using a moisture-retaining Granuflex dressing to provide a moist environment ideal for wound healing.
  6. Change the dressing and GranuGEL when the dressing starts to leak. The preparation should be removed with physiological saline solution. For a routine change, the frequency should be followed every 3 days, in the case of a moist necrotic wound, or every 7 days when a clean granulation wound is being treated.

GranuGEL – contraindications and comments

It is forbidden to use GranuGEL in case of sensitivity to any of the ingredients of the preparation.

The use of GranuGEL is possible in the colonization of chronic wounds, which is a common phenomenon in the case of pressure ulcers and skin ulcers. If you suspect its occurrence, contact your doctor and introduce appropriate antibiotic treatment. Then the wound should be carefully observed.

In the case of treatment with GranuGEL in people with ulcers in the course of diabetes, it is necessary to check the level of glucose in the blood. You should also discolor places that are particularly exposed to pressure.

With GranuGEL treatment, wounds may appear much larger during the first dressing changes. This is due to the preparation creating a moist environment that favors the removal of necrotic tissues.
