Gothic makeup: how to do it yourself? Video tutorial

The gothic style of dress and make-up is undoubtedly one of the most extravagant in the world. Traditionally, Goths dress in black or red clothing with mesh and leather elements, and they also wear eerie Gothic makeup on their faces.

If you decide, for example, to hold a gothic photo session, you will need not only clothes, but also the appropriate makeup. Most often, black pencil, very light powder and black lipstick are used here.

The gothic makeup of Van Helsing’s girl first of all presupposes a deathly pallor of her face. To create it, apply a layer of very light foundation on the face and carefully blend the edges under the chin. If you want, you can cover the neck, shoulders and other parts of the body that will be visible from under the clothes.

You can also use white or gray gouache, diluted with water and applied to the face as the base of the makeup, however, the dried paint will quickly crack

A layer of white powder can be applied over the foundation, although this is not required. The thinness and gothicness of the face can be accentuated by gray, black or dirty brown blush, which is applied from top to bottom from cheekbones to lips, creating a skull effect.

Gothic makeup: eyes and lips

Gothic-style eye makeup requires exclusively black, gray and brown shades. You can neatly paint your eyes with black pencil, leaving the edges of the lines even or shaded, or you can casually apply dark shadows and black pencil on the eyelids by rubbing them with slightly damp fingers – this will make your eyes appear tear-stained, which is very gothic.

Lines or arrows drawn with black pencil should be as clear, bright and saturated as possible. Lines on the lower eyelid are lightly shaded with a sponge

The upper eyelids of the Van Helsing girl need to be completely painted over with black shadows, and the inner eyelid can be highlighted with a white pencil for greater effect. Eyebrows should be either thin curved lines of black color, or their complete absence is visually created on the face, then they need to be covered with foundation or completely shaved off. The eyelashes are boldly painted over with black ink so that they stick together – it is stylish and fashionable for the Goths.

For the lips, black, bright red and dirty brown lipsticks are used – while gloss is unacceptable. The lip contour can be enhanced with black eyeliner. Apply a thick layer of black lipstick to your lips and your gothic makeup is ready.

Compliance with these rules of gothic makeup will allow you not only to perfectly fit into the role of Van Helsing’s girl and into the chosen subculture, but also become one of the most stylish goths among the rest of the youth.
