Mustard seed is definitely worth attention. It belongs to the cruciferous family. It is grown on a large scale because it is added to various kinds as a valuable spice pickles, pickles, meat and fish dishes. It is also an essential mustard ingredient and a honey plant. Several varieties of mustard are known:

White – comes from the region of Southern Europe. It is delicate in taste,

black – it grows in natural conditions in the north of Africa and in south-west Asia. It is spicier than white mustard. Currently, its scientific name is black cabbage

Sarepska – its home region is India. It has a characteristic spicy or even burning taste. Its current scientific name is rush cabbage.

They all have a beneficial effect on the body. However, we will focus on white mustard.

Mustard seeds are rich in carbohydrates, fat and protein. In this respect, they are similar to soybeans. In 100 g include:

The selenium content in 100 g of mustard supplements the daily demand for it 190%and manganese and v 88%. Selenium is a strong antioxidant, acting e.g. anti-cancer, but also anti-inflammatory.

Effect on health

Like flaxseed, it has a beneficial effect on gastric mucosa. After flooding with water, it secretes a specific mucus that coats the walls of the stomach and protects them. It also stimulates its activity and improves intestinal peristalsis.

It has an effect expectorant, antibacterial, antifungal, analgesic and anti-inflammatory. It is beneficial in pneumonia and colds. It is used in the case of hypertension, in the absence of appetite, flatulence, indigestion, and may also help to lower blood cholesterol levels. It is advantageous to rinse the mouth with an infusion of ground mustard in angina, pharyngitis and periostitis, colds.

Externally, mustard is used as compress for joint pain, nerve endings or rheumatic pains. You can fill it in sleeping mattresses to alleviate back pain, as well as neutralize the negative impact of watercourses on the body. You can also prepare ointments and pastes from ground seeds and apply to sore spots. However, they work great Mustard “pillows”that can be prepared quickly and easily, without getting dirty.

Note:

Mustard seeds contain substances that can irritate the skin. Be especially careful with black mustard. So be careful when applying these seeds externally. In the case of black mustard, it cannot be kept on the skin for more than 8-10 minutes.

People with thyroid problems should not reach for mustard. It contains substances goitre. People suffering from diabetes should also be careful when using larger amounts. It can reduce blood sugar levels. It is, of course, about its effect after consumption. In such cases, however, it can be used externally.

– white mustard seeds

Sew a linen bag or a pillowcase along the length so that there are stripes in it. This will prevent the seeds from clumping in one corner. After filling the pockets with seeds, sew up the side. Apply to aching joints such as knees, elbows, spine for 24 hours or at least at night.

For stomach protection

– a teaspoon of white mustard seeds

– glass of water

Pour the seeds with boiled water. Leave for 2-3 hours. Drink it in the morning or evening together with the seeds (it covers the stomach and intestines with protective mucus).

With flatulence – 2 teaspoons of white mustard seeds

– glass of water

Crush the seeds and pour a glass of cold water overnight. Set aside in a warm place. Drink 3/1 cup 4 times a day (good for gastritis, constipation, flatulence).

For colds and coughs

– a teaspoon of crushed white mustard seeds

– glass of water

Boil water and pour it over the crushed seeds. Set aside for 5 minutes. Drink 3 times a day.
