Goose in the diet? – User question / dietician reply – Articles |

Poultry meat is one of the most recommended meats in a rational diet. It is characterized by a low fat and cholesterol content. At the same time, being a source of wholesome protein. It is also relatively easy to digest and prepares quickly.

No  each type of poultry has these properties. These include mainly chicken and turkey breast meat or meat from a special species of goose, the so-called oatmeal. Meat from other geese and ducks are the most fatty varieties of poultry.

The oat goose was bred in Koluda Wielka. It conquers Polish tables due to its dietary value. This poultry variety provides approx 99-137 kcal/100 g (carcass) while a chicken carcass is approx 158 kcal / 100 g. Until now, chicken was considered the leanest.

Other geese varieties, on the other hand, have more calories and fat. In 100 g of carcass, it is as follows compared to other types of poultry:

  • traditional goose – 339 kcal, 32 g of fat
  • duck – 308 kcal, 29 g of fat
  • chicken – 202 kcal, 14 g of fat
  • chicken 158 kcal, 9 g of fat

For comparison, one of the most fatty pieces of pork neck in 100 g provides 267 kcal and 23 g of fat.

So the differences are quite significant. Chicken contains practically 3,5 times less fat than the traditional goose.

Fat

Noteworthy here is the fact that  that goose carcass has a very favorable system of fatty acids. And most importantly, it is a source of monounsaturated and polyunsaturated fatty acids. The duck also, although very fat, contains unsaturated acids in good proportions. We can find something beneficial in both of these poultry species.

Protein, vitamins and minerals

Compared to other types of poultry meat, goose is slightly weaker in terms of protein content. However, the differences are slight. It is also a source of slightly higher amounts of cholesterol, large amounts of easily digestible iron and vitamins B1 and PP. However, a worse source of vitamin B2 and calcium than duck or chicken.

To eat or not to eat goose meat on a diet?

Here, as always, moderation is bowing. Whether you choose a traditional goose or a lean oat goose depends on you. It is important to eat this type of meat in moderation from time to time. Exchange them with other types of meat and fish. And then there will be no problems with covering the demand for many nutrients.
