😉 Hello dear readers! It is known that good always returns good – the boomerang law. If it is evil, the boomerang will work as well. Check it out for yourself, but of course on good deeds.
Gregory had no time for the holidays. He spent three days in a hospital ward near his Anyuta. He did not eat, did not sleep, only listened to his wife’s ragged breathing.
A week ago, his beloved was healthy and preparing for the New Year. I tidied up in the apartment, made up a festive menu, although you can’t prepare special delicacies for retirement. And how much do they need? The main thing is that the aroma of pine needles and tangerines soars in the apartment.
He did not know that in an instant his wife, like a mown blade of grass, would fall unconscious, and in the hospital the doctors would be dumbfounded by a complex diagnosis. And they won’t smell like New Year or citrus in their house.
During these terrible days, Gregory’s hair turned white. Especially my heart sank when the doctor said that an operation was vital for Anna. And he named the cost – a cosmic amount for the spouses.
“But I don’t have that kind of money,” the old man whispered barely audibly. – My wife and I are pensioners. We live very modestly. His nephew helps as much as he can, but he has his own family. In response, the doctor sympathized with him and once again stressed that the hospital would not be able to cover the cost of the operation.
Gregory wanted to die. Why would he want to live without Anyuta? They got married young. Right after school. We lived together for many years. Lived well. They rarely quarreled, and even then over trifles. By the evening they already asked for forgiveness from each other.
God did not give children, so they gave all the warmth to the nephew. He lives in Belgorod, but from time to time he visits with his wife and daughters. He does not forget them, the old people, and, thank God. But even they will not be able to help anything when so much money is needed to save Anna.
Neighbor
Another night was spent in agonized thought. In the morning, the nurse with difficulty persuaded Gregory to rest at home for a couple of hours.
Near the apartment, he fumbled for a long time in the pockets of his jacket. Finally found it. Oksana, a neighbor, came out of the next apartment:
– How is Anya?
The neighbor sighed heavily, told the sad news. Oksana grabbed her heart:
– Oh, hopeless trouble! And where to get that kind of money? Apparently, it is necessary to announce a fundraising among the residents of our high-rise building. Today I will walk through the neighbors – maybe at least Anna will have enough medicine.
But, fixated on his grief, Gregory only waved his hand in irritation. Oksana realized that words would be superfluous. Therefore, she did not say anything more, brought her neighbor a warm, freshly cooked soup.
Stranger
Soon Gregory was again in the hospital. Anna got worse. The elderly man only clenched his fists tightly out of impotence. “Lord, save her or take me with her,” he repeated in his thoughts many times, desperately peering into a piece of sky through the window of the ward.
It was getting dark. Gray winter clouds covered the earth with snow, and it seemed that he was alone in the Universe. One on one with his grief.
– Visitors to you, – the nurse, who quietly opened the doors, broke the silence.
Gregory looked at her in surprise. Who could have come? Nephew? So he is on an urgent business trip, he promised to be tomorrow. Is it Oksana?
But behind the nurse’s shoulders was a young unfamiliar woman. She went up to the man and asked:
– Don’t you recognize me? I am Dasha, once lived nearby.
But the man peered into the face of the stranger and had no idea who she was.
– Don’t you remember me? – said Dasha. – But we must remember. Our family was poor, and you helped us often. We sometimes lived from hand to mouth.
The past flashed before the old man’s eyes. He glanced at the stranger again – and almost hit his forehead with his palm. How could he forget! This is a little girl from a large family who lived in the house opposite.
Dasha
At one time, their tragedy shook the entire neighborhood: the father died at work, leaving his wife with six small children. Since then, they have survived as best they could. And the times were difficult then. Gregory, fortunately, earned good money, so together with Anna they treated the kids to cookies, sweets, gave books and toys.
To tell the truth, more than once they helped my mother, Elena, who was torn to two jobs for a meager pay. It was impossible to watch the children running in the cold in torn sneakers and light jackets.
“Grigory Ivanovich, just don’t worry,” Dasha interrupted his memories. – Oksana told me about your trouble. And I have already paid for the operation for Anna Petrovna. She will live. Everything will be fine, you’ll see.
– Dasha, Dasha, – not believing what he heard, the man gasped for air. – Baby, is it that much money? This is an unaffordable amount!
“Don’t worry,” the young woman squeezed his hand. – I have been living in America for many years, my husband has his own business there. Once a year we come to Russia to visit our relatives. All relatives live in prosperity, so we can support you too.
The Almighty still heard Gregory’s prayers. The next morning, Anna was successfully operated on. The doctor promised that his wife would return home in a couple of weeks. And there, the man wiped away his tears, will again smell of comfort, happiness.
All this time, Dasha was next to him: she calmed, supported, treated him with homemade food, bought medicine for his wife.
Strangers
Once Grigory Ivanovich and Daria were warming up with tea in a hospital cafe.
– Baby, how grateful I am to you for my Annushka. After all, without her, the light is not nice to me, – said the man with tears in his eyes. – And yet tell me, how did you decide to help strangers?
– You are not strangers to me, – Dasha sighed. – All childhood you were kind wizards for my family. And especially for me. I still remember your gifts.
You know, somehow they started to mock me at school, call me a beggar. I was worried and with fear was waiting for my birthday, because on a holiday every child treated classmates with sweets. And my mother only had enough money for the essentials. What kind of treats are there?
Can you imagine how the children would humiliate me if I came to class without treats? They would scoff even more. I don’t know how I would have survived everything if not for you, not for Anna Petrovna. On that birthday they gave me a beautiful sweater – all the girlfriends gasped – and a lot of sweets, so at school I treated my classmates.
– Daryushka, but it was so long ago. That sweater and sweets … So many years have flown by, – the moved old man whispered in a trembling voice, looking into Daria’s shining brown eyes.
– So what? The woman smiled. – It doesn’t matter how much time has passed since then. The main thing is that good always returns good. Therefore, you should know that now I will not leave you without support.
