Gonartosis, i.e. degeneration of the knee joint in the initial stage of development, is not felt. Pain occurs when degeneration is at an advanced stage. Check what are the first symptoms and how can gonartosis be treated.
Gonarthrosis – the formation of inflammation
Gonarthrosis is a degeneration of the knee joint by doctors, it is called gonartosis. It is a bothersome ailment of the knee. The disease is damage to the articular cartilage. The loss or its dryness causes pain. In a healthy person, the joint is surrounded by a coating that protects it from mechanical damage and prevents the bones from rubbing against each other. When this coating is damaged, it comes to the bone, then to the articular capsule, and then to the muscles, tendons, and other surrounding ligaments.
Knee joint inflammation can come from two sources:
- primary, i.e. birth defects and genetic conditions,
- secondary, i.e. injuries, vitamin deficiencies, metabolic or hormonal disorders.

Gonarthrosis is most often found in women around 40-60 years of age. However, there is no age limit at which degenerative changes begin. The perceptible ailments appear at an advanced stage of the disease, so the good condition of the joints should be taken care of from a child.
