Golden Glen (Golden Glen) is a Scottish scotch of the mid-price segment, which is produced by one of the largest producers in Scotland – the company Inver House Distillers. The company specializes in the production of blends of malt and grain spirits aged in French oak barrels for at least three years. Whiskey Golden Glen is characterized by a mild taste with light peaty nuances.
Historical information
Inver House Distillers was founded in 1964 as a subsidiary of the American firm Publicker Industries, based in Philadelphia. The headquarters of the organization was in the Scottish city of Airdrie. The new industrial complex, built on the site of an abandoned Moffat Mills paper mill, included two distilleries: Glen Flagler and Garnheath. In 1966, a large bottling department for finished products was added to them.
In 1973, the company’s assets were replenished with the Bladnoch plant in Dumfries. But in the next few years, the company faced a sharp drop in demand for Scotch whiskey. The situation was aggravated by the sudden death of the owner of Inver House Distillers. The American heirs were not interested in developing business in Scotland, so the company gradually fell into decline. In the 80s, several factories were sold, and a number of sites had to be closed due to unprofitability. Only warehouses and distilleries in Airdrie managed to be completely preserved, which are still successfully operating.
In 1988, the management team of Inver House Distillers bought the company from Publicker Industries. The new owners purchased several distilleries and brands, including Hankey Bannister. In the 90s, the company experienced a rebirth. Within a decade, the firm acquired the iconic businesses that now form the backbone of Inver House’s operations – Old Pulteney, The Speyburn, Balblair, Knockdhu and Balmenach.
In the early 2000s, interest in Scotch whiskey returned, and foreign investors drew attention to the company. In 2001, the company was acquired by the Asian alcohol holding Thai Beverage, which led to the emergence of a whole range intended for buyers from Southeast Asia.
Production features
A large number of production sites allows the company to produce many brands of blended whiskey. The blend for Golden Glen is made from malt and grain spirits produced in Scottish distilleries and aged in oak barrels for at least three years. At the Airdrie facility, the scotch is diluted with spring water to the correct strength and bottled.
Interesting Facts
- The Russian market is one of the priorities for Inver House Distillers. The company supplies the country not only with finished products, but also with raw materials for the production of domestic whiskey brands. The John Corr scotch line, which was released by KiN in 2016, was the first result of cooperation between Scottish and Russian winemakers.
- Inver House produces a whole line of whiskeys aimed at buyers from Southeast Asia. The recipes of the drinks are unusual – the composition of the mixtures includes spirits distilled from molasses and rice, and infusions of Thai herbs and spices are added to the finished drinks.
