It is commonly thought that meditation makes us more calm and detached. But as it turned out, the state of deep focus and concentration increases sensitivity to the emotions of other people. American psychologists Lisbeth Nielsen from the National Institutes of Health (NIH) and Alfred Kasziniak from the University of Arizona showed participants in the study, practicing and not practicing meditation, cards with images of people in different emotional states. Clearly expressed emotions were easily recognized by everyone, but subtle, veiled ones were more successfully described by adepts of meditation. Apparently, contemplation and peace really return sharpness to feelings.
