Syn.: Petechial glove-and socks syndrome.
Def .: A syndrome characterized by the presence of borderline maculo-haemorrhagic lesions on the distal parts of the limbs in the course of a viral infection.
Lock: Hands and feet with a clear demarcation at the level of the wrists and ankles (image of gloves and socks), sometimes mucous membranes.
Etiol .: Parvovirus B19 most common, other viruses less frequently including HHV6, measles virus, HBV.
Clinical: Haemorrhagic maculopapular rash – often accompanied by swelling of the affected areas and general symptoms – fever, malaise, joint pain and lymphadenopathy. There may be changes on the mucous membranes (rash, ecchymosis, erosions).
DL: Serological testing can be performed (usually parvovirus B19 antibodies are found).
DR: Plamice, including hypergic purpura and Schonlein-Henoch syndrome.
But: It is not necessary.
