Glossy kitchens: beauty or convenience
Varieties of glossy coatings on furniture
Glossy kitchens and, in general, any furniture with facades finished in this way are manufactured using several technologies:
· Polishing – this method is used on natural materials, wood and stone, creates the most resistant to mechanical damage and easy to remove surface;
· Ultra-thin plastic panels are glued to the surface of MDF or chipboard, creating a glossy shine. There is a high risk of scratches that cannot be repaired, may fade from sunlight, but resistant to chemical attack;
· Painting – application of several layers of varnish-and-paint coating with layer-by-layer drying. The most durable finishing option in operation, including almost not exposed to ultraviolet radiation, household chemicals, humidity. Small scratches can be masked;
· Acrylic coating is applied by gluing, easily polished to eliminate minor scratches. Reacts to chemically active substances, is easily damaged mechanically;
· PVC film – the cheapest and easiest to manufacture surface finish option. The film is applied to the facades by hot vacuum pressing. Does not tolerate an abundance of moisture, the action of abrasive detergents, under the influence of ultraviolet radiation it can change color.
As can be seen from the above, any types of glossy facades require careful handling, protection from mechanical damage and excess moisture.
