First appeared on the market in 1990, Glen Clyde Scotch whiskey immediately gained popularity due to its unique taste and aroma. In subsequent years, the brand received many awards at prestigious international competitions and exhibitions, including those held in Russia.
Historical reference. The first state-licensed blended whiskey recipe was developed in Scotland in 1837. In those years, the manufacture and sale of whiskey was allowed only with a license.
In the 90s of the XX century, the masters of the newly created company Speyside Distillery (Speyside Distillery) restored the technology of making whiskey according to an old recipe and, on this basis, created a new brand – Glen Clyde. The company is owned by George Christie, who served in the Royal Navy of Great Britain. After his resignation, the former submarine captain purchased land and built a distillery where he began to make whiskey.
The brand is named after the location of the distillery in the Clyde Valley near the city of Glasgow. Here springs flow with soft, crystal clear water used to make whiskey.
Features. Blended Scotch whiskey Glen Clyde is made from a mixture of malt and grain varieties of alcohol. The ancient origin of the recipe for blending determined the main features – the richness of the smell and some oiliness. The aroma is balanced, the sweetness of malt and the taste of spices with a noticeable note of vanilla are felt.
Types of whiskey Glen Clyde
Speyside Distillery produces three varieties of Glen Clyde whiskey with a light golden color and 40% abv. The difference lies in the aging time in oak barrels: 3, 12 and 40 years. Ready drinks are poured into bottles with a capacity of 0.5, 0.7 and 1.0 liters.
- Glen Clyde 3 Years Old – a young drink, aged in oak barrels for at least three years. The taste is bright and spicy, soft and brutal, with hints of honey and apricots. The aftertaste is short, honey-citrus, reminiscent of the taste of lemon pie from Italy. The aroma has notes of honeysuckle, celery and orange blossom. The brand was awarded gold medals received in 2013 at the international competitions SFWSC in San Francisco and IWSC in the UK. Since 2003, whiskey has been receiving awards at the ProdExpo exhibition every year. Glen Clyde 3 Years Old is consumed in cocktails, with cola, juice or ice, but the true taste is manifested only in its pure form.
- Glen CLyde 12 Years Old included in the “de luxe blend” category. For production, a blend of spirits is used, previously aged in oak barrels for 12 years. The taste is soft, the aroma is multifaceted, containing tones of honey, dried fruits, almonds with a hint of peat smoke. After some time in the glass, when the whiskey “breathes”, you can catch the tones of sweet pastries stuffed with dried apricots in the aroma. The aftertaste is long, partly repeating the taste, but with a noticeable citrus component. It is drunk clean, without additives, but dilution with pure spring water is possible to soften the taste. Glen CLyde 12 Years Old has won gold medals at competitions in Los Angeles and San Francisco, as well as the “Outstanding Silver” award received in the spring of 2013 in the UK at the prestigious IWSC competition. In Russia, the brand was awarded a gold medal at the ProdExpo exhibition in 2004.
- Glen Clyde Extremely Old 40 belongs to the premium class and belongs to the single grain category (grain whiskey produced at one distillery). For aging use old barrels of port or sherry. Unlike other varieties of the brand, only grain alcohol is used. It turns out dark gold-colored whiskey, in the taste of which tones of vanilla and dried fruits (apricots, dried bananas, dried apricots and figs) appear. Notes of fruity sweetness, smells of cloves and cinnamon, beech and oak shavings against the background of fire smoke are recognizable in the aroma.
