If you dream of creating a special, with a “twist” interior, take a closer look at the glass floors. They are an excellent design solution that makes the atmosphere in the house light and fantastic. In any case, it is so unusual and original – the glass floor. Experts have developed several options, each of which is interesting in its own way and makes you look at the arrangement of your home in a new way.

How the glass floor works

These designs are the most common. They are most often arranged in country houses and apartments. Installation is carried out in the following sequence:

A niche or “window” is installed in the floor, or, on the contrary, the floor is increased by 100-150 mm. A steel or wooden frame is installed along the perimeter of the future glass floor. Finish the side surfaces of the “window” or podium (in the case of a steel frame, glass is laid through insulating gaskets to avoid direct contact with the metal). The niche is filled with decorative sand and amusing gizmos – shells and beautiful sea pebbles, if it is a marine motif, herbs and inflorescences, if it is an eco-style, etc. It all depends on the imagination of the home owner or the interior designer. Lay and fix the glass.

Tapered glass floors (walkways) are commonly used to illuminate the bottom of walls. For example, with an even moonlight around the perimeter of the room, you can create the effect of impeccable cleanliness and visually, thanks to special lamps, expand the boundaries of the room. This technique is usually used when decorating rooms where it is not planned to put furniture against the walls, or there will be a minimum of it (halls, dining rooms, etc.). It is also convenient to zone the general space of the premises with such tape floors. For example, in the kitchen-dining room, you can divide the dining and working areas, in the combined bathroom – the territory of the bath and toilet, in the living room – a fireplace space and, say, a library, etc.

The color scheme of the striped glass floors can be any, and the diode lighting along the edges will add sophistication to the interior and create the effect of streaming light from the depths. At the same time, the room visually becomes larger.

This is a type of glass floor, which is a solid glass without joints and covers the entire surface. A kitchen with such a floor will have an impeccable look, and its practicality and beauty will be a gift to any housewife. You can decorate the floor with multi-colored mosaics, ornaments, various objects depending on the chosen style, and even original photos. In addition to residential premises, the use of this design technique can often be seen in the halls of casinos, nightclubs, expensive cafes and restaurants.

This is perhaps the most entertaining and original type of glass floor, which makes your heart stop when you enter it, because under it you can clearly see what is located one floor below … In a country house it can be a glass transition (bridge) from one wing to another, and in a city apartment – a glass mezzanine, or a fragment of a ceiling that provides a second light. To make a home unique, interesting, uncommon – a glass transparent or translucent ceiling copes with this task brilliantly.

Strength and safety of glass floors

The main requirements for glass floors are reliability and safe operation. The design and construction of such coatings are quite reliable, because special glass is used in their production – triplex or float. This is a multi-layer heavy-duty glass, a laminating film is placed between the layers or a liquid is poured, then the firing procedure follows, and upon leaving the furnace, the whole structure is firmly glued together with a polymer resin.

The number of layers is calculated before installation, the calculation depends on the degree of the planned load on the glass. In general, such glass, if necessary, can withstand loads of up to 400 kg per 1 sq. m

Modern glass floors offer plenty of room for the most creative, fantastic and daring design ideas. After all, glass can be given any decoration – from matting to silk-screen printing. It becomes possible to place all kinds of decorations and lighting in the voids of the glass floor, and even arrange aquariums or original terrariums.
