For the sake of healthy lungs of Poles, the “Give the lungs a chance” campaign was launched, the aim of which is to draw attention to such important topics as prevention, diagnostics and treatment in the field of pulmonary diseases.

The “Give your lungs a chance” campaign under the media patronage of Medonet, organized by the portal www.pacjentilekarz.pl. The publication was created with the support of many eminent experts.

Self-control and monitoring of one’s health condition are crucial in starting treatment, which is particularly important at the present time of the pandemic, in order to react on time to the ailments that bother us.

The main topic of the issue is non-small cell lung cancer, and answers to the topic of diagnostics and treatment options are provided by prof. Joanna Chorostowska-Wynimko, head of the Department of Genetics and Clinical Immunotherapy of the Institute of Tuberculosis and Lung Diseases in Warsaw and prof. Rodryg Ramlau, Head of the Department and Clinic of Oncology at the Medical University of Poznań.

The publication “Give your lungs a chance” opens with a statement by Dr. n. med. Rafał Dobek, Secretary of the Polish Society of Lung Diseases, on lung diseases in Poland, paying attention to the incidence of COPD and the possibilities of diagnosis and therapy in the COVID-19 era.

In the campaign, in the words of prof. Michał Pirożyński from the Center for Allergology, Pneumology, Emergency Medicine – CMKP Simulation Center, the topic of proper inhalation in asthma was discussed. This is an extremely interesting article that tells, inter alia, about the latest recommendations of the World Initiative Against Asthma (GINA), thanks to which the introduced changes and the cooperation of the patient and the doctor on the correct inhalation increase the chance of success in the treatment of asthma.

It is worth paying attention to the article on pulmonary arterial hypertension, a rare disease whose diagnosis often begins with contact with a pulmonologist, and it is a cardiological disease. The diagnosis and treatment of PAH is introduced by Prof. Grzegorz Kopeć from the Department of Heart and Vascular Diseases of the Jagiellonian University Medical College, Center for Rare Diseases of the Circulatory System Krakow Specialist Hospital. We invited prof. Bolesław Samoliński, head of the Department of Public and Environmental Health and the Department of Prevention of Environmental Hazards and Allergology of the Medical University of Warsaw, Vice-President of the University Council of the Medical University of Warsaw, President of the Council of Experts of the Patient’s Rights Ombudsman, speaking about immunotherapy in the age of a pandemic. The article deals with topics related to the situation of patients, the possibility of diagnostics for allergies and treatment with allergen immunotherapy.

From the beginning of the pandemic, scientists have pointed to the risk of a more severe course of COVID-19 in smokers. In an interview by Dr. Łukasz Balwicki, head of the Department of Public Health and Social Medicine, Medical University of Gdańsk, we discuss the impact of smoking on our health and the possibility of support in the process of quitting the addiction.
