What to do if the column does not turn on
Opened the mixer, but did not wait for hot water? All because the equipment does not work, the burner does not ignite. If the device is under warranty, you can contact the service center. The column ignites poorly, the igniter goes out
In this case, the security system is activated. Most often, such a problem can be found in automatic equipment with electronic ignition.
The task of the igniter – ignite the burner. It must run continuously. Warming up the thermocouple, the igniter brings it to the burner, where the fuel mixture is ignited. If a fire does not occur, protection sensors turn off the equipment to avoid the accumulation of carbon monoxide.
To carry out repairs, you need to understand how the security system functions.
Thermocouple consists of an alloy of several metals. When heated, it generates an EMF (electromotive force), thus feeding the solenoid valve. Why does the column not burn for a long time? Often the insulation of the thermocouple conductor is broken – it fails. Exposed wires can short to the case.
You can’t just solder the departed conductor, then the thermocouple will not be able to conduct current. The assembly needs to be completely replaced.
When the thermocouple reaches a certain temperature, it generates an electric current. It drives the valve stem. The latter opens, launching gas into the burner. If there is no spark, the flame does not ignite – the thermocouple cools down, returning the rod to its original position. The valve closes, the fuel supply stops. Therefore, when the mixer is opened, there will be no ignition.
The same thing happens when the wick goes out. This can happen when there is a fuel cut or draft. To check the wick, do this:
- Take a 1,5V AA battery.
- Connect to coil winding.
- Light the wick. If it is on, the part is working. When the battery is disconnected, the flame should go out.
The thermocouple needs to be replaced.
If the windows are tightly closed in the room and there is poor ventilation, the device overheats and trips. thermal fuse. This means that the overheating has reached 90 degrees. To verify that the fuse is the cause of the problem, disconnect the leads and short them together. If the equipment began to work as usual, the temperature sensor needs to be replaced.

Why doesn’t the burner light up? There may be other reasons for this.
- In the model with piezo ignition, the button was not held down enough. Press the key for at least 10 seconds.
- Insufficient water pressure in the system. You need to wait for the restoration of supply, and also check the filter in front of the column. He could be clogged with small debris. To do this, remove and rinse it under running water, you can use a brush. Adjust the pressure knob on the panel.
If the technique works, but a thin stream of warm water flows from the hot tap, check the faucet. Most likely, it has broken and is mixing in a cold stream.

No spark
Main problems and ways to solve them:
- Batteries are dead in the automatic model. Check that the batteries are installed correctly. Alkaline batteries are recommended. They have sufficient charge for stable operation of equipment. Also inspect the contacts, periodically they need to be cleaned.
- No traction. The main reason is a clogged chimney. From the street, the hole can be clogged with leaves and debris. During combustion, soot is formed on the walls, which also narrows the patency. Then the draft sensor is triggered – protection against the accumulation of carbon monoxide. Clean the chimney from your side, for cleaning from the street, call the utilities.
- Leakage at pipe connections. The joints are sealed with gaskets, nuts are screwed on top. Over time, gaskets lose elasticity and wear out. If you notice a leak, unscrew the nut and replace the seal.
- Problems with water pressure. If after some time the pressure has not resumed, clean the filters, pipes that lead to the device.
- The membrane has failed. The element stands at the entrance to the water block. What could happen: loss of elasticity, wear; damage, deformation; scum blockage. - Breakdown of the electronic unit. Specialist intervention required.
There is a spark, but the burner does not ignite
This happens when there is a blockage in the system.
The heat exchanger is clogged with soot, scale. With the accumulation of soot, traction deteriorates, which leads to the operation of the security system. Remove the top casing, clean the radiator with a vacuum cleaner or brush.
Scale is formed when magnesium and calcium salts settle on the parts of the heat exchanger. It creates the effect of thermal insulation. As a result, the water heats up longer, the pressure decreases, but gas consumption increases. We will tell you how to clean the knot at home.
- Remove the radiator.
- Place it in a container that is ¼ full of water.
- Prepare a solution of citric acid 150 g per 750 ml.
- Pour the solution into the heat exchanger coil using a watering can, leave for 15 minutes.
- Place the container on the stove, boil for a few minutes.
After the procedures, rinse all radiator tubes with running water. The remaining scale should come out. Dry the assembly and reinstall.
Burner clogged with soot. Holes and jets are cleaned with a metal brush. Use soapy water to check connections for leaks. If foam bubbles somewhere, turn off the gas supply and contact a specialist.
Faucet filter clogged. It is necessary to disassemble and clean the part from contamination.
Experts recommend:
- Set the temperature to no more than 55 degrees. It is better not to dilute hot water with cold water – this leads to the formation of scale.
- Use water filters. They make it “softer”, after which the technique works for a long time and stably.
- It is better to connect powerful devices through a stabilizer in order to avoid voltage drops in the network.
- Do a preventive checkup once a year.
