The principle of operation of the device
To make the right choice, you need to understand the device and the principle of operation of the column. It is also called a flow heater.
Two tubes are connected to the body. One supplies gas, the other supplies water. When water is supplied to the line, pressure arises that acts on the membrane. It bends and opens the gas valve. What technique to choose
What should be considered to make the right purchase? First of all, the features of the room: its area, ventilation, the possibility of organizing a chimney. Then pay attention to the features of the technique:
- Power and performance. What pressure is the equipment designed for;
- Ignition type;
- Case dimensions;
- The combustion chamber;
- The quality of the heat exchanger;
- Work safety;
- Management;
- Cost.
Performance and Power
The passport indicates the rated power of the device. The higher it is, the larger the displacement can be heated. So:
- 17 kW refers to low power;
- 22-24 kW – to the average;
- 28-31 kW – to high.
Important! Don’t forget to consider the quality of the wiring in your home. If it is old, then replace it. Or choose a low-power technique.
To provide one sampling point, heating of 10 liters per minute is enough. This is quite enough for two people. For splitting into a shower and sink and usinguse three people will do 13-14 liters per minute. A large family will need 15-16 liters. In this case, you can connect all the necessary points.
It is important that there is enough pressure in the line to trigger a powerful column. Otherwise, it will not turn on or it will give out bad pressure. How to choose a product by dimensions? To get started, select an installation location. Then you will understand what size the technique should be. In general, gas heaters are light and compact because they do not have a storage tank.
Selection by type of ignition begins with an inspection of the room, checking for the presence of a chimney or ventilation in it. Manufacturers no longer produce products with manual ignition of the wick. Today the following types are popular:
- Piezo ignition. The wick ignition system is automatic, but to start it, you need to press the piezo ignition button and hold it for at least 10 seconds. Model Data cheaper than others.
- Electric ignition. Batteries are located in a special compartment of the case. They are triggered at the moment the mixer is opened, striking a spark for the burner. All you need to do is change the batteries periodically.
- Ignition with a hydro turbine. Due to the water pressure in the housing, a turbine is rotated, which generates current for the spark. Ignition depends on the presence of pressure in the system. This is the most expensive type of speakers.
Type of combustion chamber
There are two types of combustion chambers:
- Open. Requires a chimney. The fuel, together with oxygen, burns out indoors, and then the combustion products are removed through the chimney.
- Closed. A coaxial pipe is used. The best option for installation in a private house: the device does not burn fuel inside. Oxygen enters the chamber through the outer channel, and combustion products are removed through the inner channel. For this, the pipe is brought out into the street.
The disadvantage of closed chambers is that the built-in fan is powered by electricity. It follows from this: if the electricity is turned off, then there will be no hot water supply.
Heat exchanger material
The radiator or heat exchanger is an important part. Water passes through its coil for heating. Since it is constantly in contact with the liquid and is subjected to heat, the quality of its manufacture is important.

Management
Mechanical control allows you to separately adjust the force of water pressure and gas supply. The electronic control sets the indicators more precisely, and the set parameters are reflected on the display:
- Temperature;

Safety in work
It is important to choose a safe technique that should protect the user when:
- Interruptions in the supply of gas and water;
- Fuel leakage;
- Lack of traction, overheating or high pressure.
To do this, the device has special sensors that, reacting to deviations in operation, turn it off:
- Flame control. There is an electrode near the burner. In the presence of a flame, it supplies current to the controller. As soon as the flame goes out, the current supply stops and the column turns off;
- Flame sensor. Control of the previous sensor. If the electrode does not work, the combustion sensor comes to the rescue;
- Protection against overpressure in the system. The safety valve releases liquid when the pressure exceeds the nominal values;
- Overheat sensor. If the heating temperature exceeds 100 degrees, the equipment will automatically stop working;
- Traction sensor. Weak draft is dangerous for carbon monoxide leakage into the room. To avoid this a sensor is installed that monitors the presence and absence of traction;
- Limit timer. Turns off the heater after 20-30 minutes of heating.

Much when choosing a column also depends on the manufacturer and the place of assembly. The most popular brands are:
- Ariston. Italian brand. The panels are equipped with a display and convenient control;

- Junkers made by Bosch. It is possible to regulate the power by modulating the burner flame;
