Geuchera: photos and names, varieties and types

Plants of the Heuchera variety (Latin Heuchera) were not in demand until the hybrid Heuchera appeared. Varieties of low-growing herbaceous bushes became in demand in landscape design at the beginning of the 50th century. Today, thanks to breeders, there are more than XNUMX plant varieties.

The main varieties and types of heuchera

The genus Heuchera was named after the German Johann Heicher, doctor and part-time botanist. Modern varieties of Heuchera with a photo and a name, presented in horticultural catalogs, only vaguely resemble their ancestors.

Varieties of decorative heuchera in landscape design

Description of popular varieties of Heuchera

Under the scientific name Heuchera americana, 58 varieties of the decorative flower are combined. All of them can be divided into 3 main types:

  • wild forest;
  • wild mountainous;
  • hybrids.

Each species includes dozens of subspecies. In garden plots, the latter variety is more common. In park design, it is used to create accents. Luxurious, vibrant plant ideal for filling voids in flower beds.

Representatives of the genus Heuchera differ both in appearance and in such characteristics as resistance to drought and frost, endurance and demanding care. Here are the most common flower varieties:

  • “Purple Castle”. Became popular due to the ivy-like leaves streaked with a rich dark purple color;
  • Marvelos Marb. Unpretentious frost-resistant plant with leaves of noble bronze shades;
  • “Hercules”. Draws attention with green leaves marked with cream and white strokes;
  • Melting Fire. The color of the foliage depends on the age of the plant: purple-brown in adult flowers, crimson in young flowers;
  • “Comet”. The plant has an amazing combination of dark green jagged foliage with bright red bell-shaped flowers;
  • “Obsidian”. The crown is decorated with black plum leaves;
  • “Amethyst Mist”. The flower is named after the gem because of its resemblance to quartz.

Each variety has found application in landscape design. For example, with the help of “Palace Purpl” and “Marvelos Marb” you can add spice to any plant composition. “Comet”, on the contrary, will add shades of tenderness and simplicity to the floristic ensemble.

Thanks to the Heuchera americana plant, even the most unsightly part of the garden will become cozy and beautiful. Heuchera look perfect in groups with other representatives of the flora.
