Aphthae are inflammations occurring in the mouth, manifested mainly by a painful “pimple” on the inside of the mouth. Afta can also be covered with a whitish coating. Although canker sores go away on their own after a few days or weeks, if they occur frequently, additional treatment is worthwhile.
In adults, canker sores often occur as a chronic condition, associated with incorrect habits. These include e.g. bad hygiene (use of dirty dishes), nail biting, improper care of oral hygiene or allergies. It is also possible that recurrent aphthae are the result of permanently reduced immunity. In this case, canker sores are a wake-up call that should encourage us to permanently change our lifestyle.
Why do ulcers occur?
Aphthae may arise due to vitamin deficiency, stress or too little sleep combined with the abuse of alcohol and other drugs. Aphthae often runs in families, that is, in families where the older generation suffers from it canker sores, there is a higher risk of developing them in children. However, it may also be related to negative habits passed down from generation to generation. It also happens that ulcers are related to the appearance of the herpes virus. If aphthous ulcers appear regularly, we are dealing with recurrent aphthosis. It is also worth paying attention to the size of the aft. Canker sores (up to 2 cm in size) are often associated with vitamin deficiencies and an excess of preservatives in the body.
Big and small
Small aftom may be accompanied by the enlargement of lymph nodes, which lasts about a week. For both types after it is worth carrying out a thorough “cleansing” of the body. First of all, you should limit processed products that contain a lot of preservatives, as well as stimulants. Instead, let’s include vegetable smoothies, homemade soups, salads, groats and unprocessed grains in the diet. In the case of aphthae, it is also worth reaching for multivitamin preparations, with particular emphasis on magnesium, which is responsible for the condition of the oral cavity and tissues, and vitamin C, which supports immunity.
Drugs from the pharmacy
It is also important to improve oral hygiene and maintain good hygiene when eating. Wash cutlery thoroughly, do not eat fruit straight from the store shelf and visit the dentist regularly. In the evening, it is worth paying a lot of attention to removing impurities from the mouth with dental floss. You should brush your teeth twice a day, for at least three minutes each time. Afty can also be treated with hydrogen peroxide, which helps to control inflammation. Rinsing your mouth with salt solution will also work. In pharmacies, there are also many preparations specifically designed to treat this problem.
