In addition to bathing suits and towels, sunblock and glasses packed in a bag, it is also worth “packing” knowledge about safe sunbathing into your head. Sunbathing is pleasant, but if we are not careful, we will not be able to count these holidays as successful.
Moderation in tanning is the key!
Tanning is healthy. Any doctor will say the same. The sun’s rays have a positive effect on our body, which produces vitamin D during this process, which is the basic building block of bones. It also improves our well-being – mental and physical health. Warm sunlight helps fight depression. It has a good effect on the skin – treats acne and on the digestive system – supports the work of metabolism. Also, every doctor agrees on one of the basic rules: sunbathe in moderation. Excessive sunbathing can harm us. Discoloration and burns may appear on the skin, which can lead to the appearance of melanoma – skin cancer.
What is important is your phototype
In order to prepare for sunbathing in the best possible way, you must first recognize yours photo type. It is needed to determine what filters we can or must lubricate.
- If your beauty is: blue eyes, fair skin, blond or red hair this means your skin rarely turns brown and turns red quickly. So, in the first days of sunbathing, use creams with an SPF of at least 30. After a few days, you can go to a lower one – 25, 20, depending on how much the sun heats up. It is recommended to use SPF 50 on the face, especially at the beginning of your tanning adventure.
- If your beauty is: gray or hazel eyes, slightly swarthy complexion, dark hair this means that your skin turns slightly brown during tanning, sometimes it may turn red on some parts of the body, which changes to brown after a few hours. You can start tanning with factor 20 or 15, and after a few days go to factor 10 or 8.
- If your beauty is: oor dark, dark hair, olive complexion it means you are made for tanning. Initially, use creams with SPF 10 or 8, in the following days you can use SPF 5 or 4. Of course, remember about moderation and don’t lie in the sun for hours. Even people with dark skin are at risk of stroke and discoloration.
Children and the elderly have particularly sensitive skin. The recommended filters are 30, you can gradually lower them to (minimum) 15.
Get your skin used to the sun
We should adjust not only the level of protection in creams to a specific phototype. Fair-skinned people should gradually get their skin used to sunbathing. are recommended 15-20 minute walks in full sun. Every day we can extend this time by a few minutes. Dark-skinned people don’t have to be so careful. They are less sensitive to sunlight. However, everyone should take into account the strength of the sun and not immediately expose themselves to several hours of aging. It is very easy to get a stroke in this case.
A frequent and basically reprehensible mistake is made by people who use protective creams at the beginning of sunbathing and then stop using them. Already tanned skin is still exposed to dangers. We should always use sunscreen. Even in the city, exposed arms and legs should be protected and smeared with an SPF filter. Particularly sensitive areas such as lips, night and the skin around the eyes should be treated with blockers.
Remember to put sunscreen on your body about 30 minutes before leaving the house, and repeat it every 3 hours during the day. When sunbathing on the beach, we can repeat this treatment every 2 hours.
