German Export Helles (German Helles Exportbier)

Aromatic lager is slightly stronger and denser than most analogues. It has a mild malt-hop taste, grassy aroma. Fermentation is pure. The appearance of a nuance of sulfur or dimethyl sulfide is undesirable, but possible.

The color is rich gold, in the glass it forms a white foam. All notes of the bouquet are well balanced, none dominates. Thanks to malt tones, it refreshes well in the heat, the aftertaste is bitter, hoppy. Depending on the water used in the production, it can be slightly mineral.

It is also supplied to the market under the name “Dortmund” (sometimes – “Dortmund Export”, although in fact it is not necessarily exported).

The style, true to its name, originated in Dortmund in the 1870s as an alternative to the pale pilsner. The peak of popularity fell on the period of the 50-70s of the XX century. Made from noble hops, mineralized water, pils malt, lager yeast. Depending on the manufacturer, the composition may also include unmalted grain, hop extract.

German export helles is fuller-bodied than pils and more hoppy than regular helles.
