General screening for men is the primary form of health surveillance. Proper prophylaxis allows for early detection of diseases that pose a serious threat to health. What general examinations should men do? They are based on the morphology and general urine examination. What other tests are recommended for men? Why is it worth researching yourself?

When should a man do general examinations?

Some conditions are asymptomatic at an early stage. This is why an apparently healthy person may find it unnecessary to go to a doctor for a checkup. Unfortunately, as a result of this, many Poles go to a specialist only when the symptoms are annoying and the disease has already reached an advanced stage. In such a situation, treatment may be much more difficult.

Health awareness is crucial for the early detection of diseases and their effective treatment. That is why it is worth doing preventive examinations on your own every year, regardless of your health condition. The full package of laboratory tests is most often performed on the recommendation of a doctor when disturbing symptoms appear. However, if we want to prevent and detect potential changes earlier, we will carry out the appropriate tests privately. This also applies to general male research.

Men, like women, should have regular check-ups. A general urine test is fundamental, as is a blood test. The morphology and the determination of a number of indicators are useful in diagnosis of many diseases. Although prophylaxis is important regardless of age, measurements from an even wider range should be performed after exceeding a certain age.

Basic general examinations for men

Under health prophylaxis it is worth performing a full set of basic research once a year. These tests are included in the basket of basic services, but are not performed once a year as part of prophylaxis. So your GP is not required to refer you to such screening tests, but you can do them privately. For men, urine and blood tests will be especially useful. Our proposed tests also include liver tests (ALT, AST, ALP, bilirubin, GGTP) and a lipid profile. After receiving the results, consult them with your doctor. If such recommendations are made, it may be necessary to perform additional tests with a specific profile, for example:

  1. renal profile;
  2. diabetic profile;
  3. metabolic profile.

First general diagnostics of male health may include a package of the following tests:

  1. urine (general examination) – the results of tests performed on a urine sample allow you to determine whether there are any disorders in the functioning of the urogenital system, liver or kidneys. This is an important study for men, especially middle-aged men. Correct color, pH and specific gravity of urine is half the battle. It is also crucial that the urine does not reveal unwanted components, such as protein or glucose. A general urine test costs about PLN 12.
  2. ESR (erythrocyte sedimentation rate) – ESR measurement is a screening test performed along with morphology. It enables the detection of inflammatory conditions, and exceeding the norm may be an indication for further tests. The price of the OB marking is PLN 8 on average.
  3. complete blood count – one of the basic diagnostic tests to analyze the blood composition and identify abnormalities such as infections, immunodeficiency, anemia or problems with clotting. Apart from the number of platelets, white blood cells and red blood cells, other indicators, e.g. iron, are usually also measured in the course of the morphology. We will pay from 12 to 20 PLN for a complete morphology.
  4. glucose – sugar level is an important research in the context of one of the most common civilization diseases, i.e. diabetes. The price of the test is on average PLN 6-12.
  5. electrolytes – the study of the body’s water and electrolyte balance by analyzing the content of electrolytes in the plasma. The measurement of electrolytes is recommended especially in the case of hypertension, heart disorders, swelling or muscle cramps.
  6. lipid profile – cholesterol and triglyceride levels should be monitored regardless of age and weight. Although unfavorable cholesterol levels have been associated with being overweight or obese, even with a lower weight it is possible that LDL, or bad cholesterol, is accumulated in the blood vessels. The lipidogram includes tests for total cholesterol, LDL, HLD and triglycerides, for which we will pay from 20 to 50 PLN.
  7. ALT – alanine aminotransferase is an enzyme that indicates the possibility of liver diseases such as mononucleosis, jaundice or cirrhosis. If a patient is deficient in vitamin B6, it may affect the test result. The ALT test is usually priced at PLN 9-15.
  8. AST – aspartate aminotransferase is analyzed in relation to the level of ALT, which enables the detection of liver damage, which may result, among others, from from liver inflammation or infections with viruses such as HCV and HBV. The price of AST measurement ranges from PLN 9 to PLN 15.
  9. ALP – alkaline phosphatase is another enzyme whose testing is part of the liver tests. If its concentration exceeds the norm, not only liver problems are likely, but also disorders of calcium metabolism, diseases of the parathyroid glands, skeletal system or cancer. The price of the ALP test is from 9 to 15 PLN.
  10. bilirubin – This bile pigment is important in the diagnosis of liver disease. Abnormal amounts of bilirubin may indicate abnormalities in the bile ducts or liver disease. The price of a bilirubin test is usually PLN 8-15.
  11. GGTP – the last of the liver tests useful in basic diagnostics is gamma-glutamyltranspeptidase (GGTP). The norm in men is below 40IU / l, and its analysis is also important, taking into account other liver function tests. In most facilities, we will pay no more than PLN 15 for the examination.
  12. urea – determining the level of urea in the blood costs an average of PLN 8 and is used to diagnose the condition of the kidneys.
  13. Creatinine – Creatinine levels are not affected by diet or urine volume, so it is a good indicator of glomerular filtration efficiency. Adverse outcomes can be medication, renal failure, poisoning, and dehydration. We will test creatinine in the laboratory for nearly PLN 8.
  14. uric acid – blood uric acid testing is important in the detection of diseases such as gout or urolithiasis. The price of the test is PLN 9-20.
  15. iron – measuring iron levels should be performed regularly, especially in men on a vegetarian diet. It is also important in prophylaxis, because iron deficiency occurs with problems with its absorption, in kidney diseases, infections and inflammations, as well as cancer. The cost of the test should not exceed PLN 15.

Many laboratories offer more favorable prices if we decide on the full package of general laboratory tests.

Everyone should perform prophylactic laboratory tests at least a year. A package of laboratory tests for men was prepared by Polmed to detect pathological changes in the body at an early stage. Buy quickly and safely on Medonet Market.

General Surveys for Men – How to Prepare?

Laboratory tests of a general diagnostic nature do not require a doctor’s referral, if we perform them prophylactically at our own request. In this case, we pay for them out of our own pocket.

Before the general examinations for men, it is important to follow the recommendations regarding proper preparation for blood collection. Most tests require you to go to the lab in the morning and on an empty stomach. The patient should be rested and refrain from strenuous exertion before the tests. The last meal should be eaten the day before. In the case of a lipid profile, it is important that the dinner is light and low-fat, and it should also take 14 hours.

In the case of urine test you need to obtain a special disposable container. It is also important to maintain hygiene, wash the intimate area, and then return the sample of the first morning urine to the container. We return it to the laboratory on the same day.
