The active substances are aluminum and peppermint oil. The drug is a suspension for oral administration and is available without a prescription.

Gelatum Aluminii Phosphorici Aflofarm treats the symptoms of gastric hyperacidity, which is associated with gastroesophageal reflux disease, gastritis and gastric and duodenal ulcer disease.

Dosage of the preparation

Gelatum Aluminii Phosphorici Aflofarm is a suspension for oral use. Shake the packaging before use. The maximum dose is 100 ml per day.

  1. Orally. 5-15 ml, usually 3 times / day or more often, 15-30 minutes before the expected onset of pain or between meals.

Gelatum Aluminii Phosphorici Aflofarm and contraindications

Contraindications to taking Gelatum Aluminii Phosphorici Aflofarm are:

  1. allergy to any ingredient of the preparation,
  2. constant renal failure, especially in dialysis patients.

Gelatum Aluminii Phosphorici Aflofarm – drug restrictions

  1. Do not use Gelatum Aluminii Phosphorici Aflofarm in children under 6 years of age without consulting a doctor, as well as in people with skeletal disorders, with impaired kidney function and in people with Alzheimer’s disease.
  2. Long-term use reduces phosphorus absorption, which can lead to phosphorus deficiency.
  3. Do not use long-term; if symptoms persist, consult a doctor.
  4. 15 ml of the preparation contains 7,35 g of sucrose – which should be taken into account by diabetics.
  5. It is not recommended for use in pregnant and breastfeeding women due to the lack of data on the safety of its use.
  6. Patients with hereditary problems of fructose intolerance, glucose-galactose malabsorption or sucrase-isomaltase insufficiency should not use the preparation.

Gelatum Aluminii Phosphorici Aflofarm and other substances

Gelatum Aluminii Phosphorici Aflofarm reduces the effect of:

  1. tetracyclines (use 3-4 hours after taking tetracyclines),
  2. ciprofloksacyny,
  3. norfloksacyny,
  4. phenytoin,
  5. iron compounds,
  6. cardiac glycosides,
  7. ketoconazole,
  8. salicylates and quinidines,
  9. H2 receptor antagonists (cimetidine, ranitidine, famotidine),
  10. sucralfatu.

The preparation may change the place of action of gastro-resistant tablets, so these preparations should be taken an hour after or an hour before taking the drug.

Gelatum Aluminii Phosphorici Aflofarm – side effects

During treatment with Gelatum Aluminii Phosphorici Aflofarm, the following may appear:

  1. constipation
  2. decreased levels of phosphate in the blood with symptoms such as malaise, loss of appetite, muscle weakness,
  3. the use of high doses for more than 2 weeks may cause kidney problems,
  4. Elderly patients are at risk of developing or worsening symptoms of Alzheimer’s disease.
