Gastroesophageal Reflux Disease (Heartburn) – Our Doctor’s Opinion

As part of its quality approach, Passeportsanté.net invites you to discover the opinion of a health professional. Dr Véronique Louvain, specialized in hepato-gastroenterology, gives you his opinion on the gastroesophageal reflux :

Gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD for specialists!) Is a frequent symptom and easily improved by correcting the dietary errors of our society: “always too much and too quickly”! Before 45 years of age, a test treatment may be given at first, but after 45 years and in the event of resistant reflux, a high endoscopy is “essential” especially since the affected person is a smoker or alcohol user. If well-followed proton pump inhibitor (PPI) drug therapy is not effective and the endoscopy is normal, it is most likely refractory reflux and acid-sensitive esophagus, d functional order. You then have to ask yourself other questions about your lifestyle, diet, and representation (bad news that “does not pass”, that we “cannot swallow”, which “got stuck” etc…), the current language being quite explicit.

Dr. Louvain Veronique, HGE
