During periods of colds and flu, apart from conventional medicine, we eagerly resort to natural treatments that have been known for centuries. Herbal teas, tinctures made according to traditional recipes, raspberry juice, and syrups made of natural ingredients enjoy unflagging popularity. In recent years, conventional medicine as well as the cosmetic and therapeutic industries have been drawing on traditional methods of treatment, herbal medicine and folk recipes. Many natural medicines can be prepared by yourself, easily available ingredients that you will definitely find in your home pantry. Garlic syrup is one of the traditional medicines that we can easily prepare at home.

Medicinal properties of garlic

Garlic is one of the best known natural germicides. It has been used for centuries as a remedy for colds and flu.

Garlic contains allicin – a substance with a strong bactericidal effect, thanks to which eating it supports the body in the fight against bacteria and viruses that attack it during periods of illness. Allicin is responsible for the strong smell of garlic, which is also felt in the breath and sweat of a person who eats large amounts of garlic, which often discourages many people from reaching for it. The smell of garlic can be neutralized, among other things, by eating fresh parsley, and after a few days after the garlic treatment, its smell will disappear.

Garlic acts as a natural antibiotic, it also contains flavonoid compounds, vitamins: A, B1, B2, PP and C, positively influencing the body’s immunity. Garlic also contains mineral salts – magnesium, calcium, potassium and elements such as chromium, nickel and cobalt. Garlic lowers blood pressure, lowers fever, and thanks to the essential oils it contains, it facilitates breathing, clearing the respiratory tract and facilitating expectoration of the remaining secretions.

Garlic can be eaten raw, peeled from the husks and cut into a sandwich or eaten as an addition to other meals. However, the strong aroma and spicy taste of garlic can discourage eating it raw. In the heat treatment process, garlic loses some of its properties, so eating it as an addition to hot dishes will not do much for us, except to enhance the taste of the prepared dish. The answer to the search for a way to serve garlic to children or people who cannot decide on a slice of bread with raw garlic will be simple and quick to prepare garlic syrup.

Instead of garlic syrup, you can reach for a dietary supplement with unscented garlic, which is also designed to support immunity. You can find it on Medonet Market. You can also try 1000 mg garlic oil capsules.

How to prepare garlic syrup?

Garlic syrup is a medicine that we can prepare ourselves from a few basic ingredients that we will surely find in any kitchen or the nearest store.

To prepare garlic syrup, we need:

  1. 2 or 3 heads of garlic,
  2. 3 lemons
  3. 6 tablespoons of natural honey,
  4. 1 cup of cool water.

Peel the garlic and crush the cloves using a special squeezer or a squeezing press. Squeeze the juice from the lemons and mix it with honey. Gradually add water, stirring all the time. Leave the resulting substance for about 24 hours in a dark place to “gain strength”. Pour the finished syrup into a dark glass bottle.

  1. You can also buy ready-made garlic syrup with vitamin C available on Medonet Market at a favorable price.

It is very important that the honey used to prepare the garlic syrup is natural, which means that it should contain natural propolis and pollen. Many producers market honey produced artificially in an accelerated process, devoid of nutritional properties.

Natural honey is called liquid gold because of its healing properties and the content of about three hundred substances that have a beneficial effect on human health, immunity and well-being. Real honey also includes natural proteins, vitamins: A, B1, B2, B6, B12, C, carbohydrates, organic acids, essential oils, polyphenolic compounds and folic acid.

Folic acid is one of the B vitamins that should be supplemented due to its positive effect on the body. For this reason, we recommend dietary supplements with folic acid.

Real honey can be recognized by its taste: natural honey has a patchy, rough texture, and when tasting it, we feel a pleasant scratching in the throat caused by pollen particles. Natural honey crystallizes, dissolves unevenly in other liquids, and drips unevenly from the application spoon or spatula. Only natural honey will allow you to get out of the prepared by us garlic syrup all properties healing.

We recommend Oxymel with onion, garlic and ginger, i.e. a combination of apple cider vinegar with macerated vegetables, honey and herbs. Such a preparation can serve us as a support for immunity as well as a syrup.
