Garden strawberry care. Video
Strawberries are one of the most common garden berries. Tasty, juicy, fruitful, it rightfully takes its rightful place in garden plots and vegetable gardens. In addition, strawberries are very useful because they contain many vitamins and minerals. However, you need to know how to properly care for strawberries in order to protect them from disease, damage and get consistently high yields.
Care of garden strawberries
How to properly care for strawberries in spring and summer
You will need: – organic and nitrogen fertilizers; – a small rake; – water for irrigation.
When the snow melts and the soil dries up a little, you need to remove the old mulch from the garden strawberry beds and carefully examine all the bushes. All blackened, spotted and dry leaves should be removed, and the soil between the bushes should be carefully loosened.
In the spring, plants are also fed with a mixture of organic and nitrogen fertilizers. For this, about 10 kilograms of manure and 0,5 grams of ammonium nitrate or ammonium sulfate are taken for 30 liters of water. Mix thoroughly and pour 0,5 liters of the resulting suspension under each bush.
You can also feed the strawberries with a ready-made complex fertilizer, carefully following the instructions for use.
Watering strawberries in spring is done depending on the air temperature and the amount of precipitation. This berry does not tolerate both a lack of moisture (especially in hot weather) and excessive waterlogging (strawberry diseases can begin, affecting both the plant itself and the future harvest).
Summer strawberry care consists of regular watering, mulching, weeding, and timely harvesting. Watering the bushes should be done early in the morning, and if this is not possible, in the evening. The water should be warm enough.
It is very useful to mulch the bushes before the formation of the first fruits. The whiskers are removed regularly as they drain the plants and reduce yields.
If the gardener wants to propagate strawberries with a mustache, you should leave 1-2 mustaches with the largest rooted rosettes near the selected bushes, and then carefully dig out the sockets and plant them in a new place.
When the first signs of strawberry disease are detected, measures must be taken to combat them.
Ripe berries are carefully picked together with the stalk. It is best to harvest early in the morning or in the evening because strawberries are delicate and quickly spoil in the hot sun.
How to care for strawberries in the fall and prepare for winter
You will need: – straw; – coniferous spruce branches; – fallen leaves.
The main thing to do in the fall is to reliably cover the strawberry bushes for the winter. As a covering material, gardeners use straw, fallen leaves, corn stalks, coniferous spruce branches – spruce or pine. Protected from the cold, strawberries will well endure even severe frosts and will delight you with a bountiful harvest next year.
