Function keys allow you to use the keyboard instead of the mouse, thereby speeding up your work.

F1

Opens Excel Help, similar to the question mark button.

F2

Moves the cursor to the end of the contents of the active cell. In the figure below, we have selected a cell B6 and pressed the key F2.

Note: Uncheck the box Allow editing directly in cells (Allow editing in cells), which is located Fillet > Options > Advanced > Editing Options (File > Options > Advanced > Edit Options). After that, pressing the key F2 will move the cursor to the formula bar.

F3

Opens a dialog box Paste Name (Insert name). For example, select a cell E2as in the picture below, enter “=SUM(” or “=SUM(“, press F3 and choose a name.

Note: Of course, at least one named range must be created first.

F4

Toggles between all four types of cell references (absolute, mixed of the two, and relative). For example, select a cell B5, as in the picture below, click on the formula bar, place the cursor on the left, right, or inside “G2”, and press F4.

Note: In addition, the key F4 repeats the last action if possible.

F5

Opens a dialog box Go To (Transition). For example, to go to a cell C15, you need to enter “C15” in the field Reference (Link) dialog box Go To (Go) and press OK.

Note: You can also select a named range or click the button Special (Select) to quickly select all cells with formulas, comments, conditional formatting, constants, data validation, and more.

F6

Moves to the next window on the split sheet.

F7

Opens a dialog box Spelling (Spelling), like a button Spelling (Spelling) tab Review (Review).

F8

Enables/disables the extension mode. If selection expand mode is enabled, select the cell A1 and press repeatedly.

Note: If extension mode is disabled, hold down the key Shift and press repeatedly.

F9

Performs a book count. By default, every time you change a value, Excel automatically recalculates the workbook. Activate manual calculation by enabling the option Manual (Manual) which is on the tab Formulas (Formulas) > group Calculation (calculation) > Calculations Options (Calculation Options), and change the value in the cell A1 from 5 to 6.

Note: If you press while editing a cell F9, the formula in that cell is replaced by the result.

F10

Displays key tips. The same happens when the key is pressed. Alt.

Creates a chart sheet in the selected range.

Calls up a dialog box Save As (Saving the document).
