Fucidin – composition, use, dosage, contraindications. When should I use Fucidin?

Fucidin is a medicated cream for topical application to the skin. The active substance, i.e. the one with the main effect, is fusidic acid, which is an antibiotic effective in combating gram-positive bacteria, in particular staphylococci.

Fucidin – composition

Fucidin is a preparation that is applied topically to the skin to treat bacterial skin infections caused by bacteria that are sensitive to fusidic acid, the active ingredient in the medicine. One gram of the drug contains 20 mg of fusidic acid and the following excipients:

  1. butylohydroksyanizol,
  2. potassium sorbate,
  3. hydrochloric acid,
  4. polysorbate 60,
  5. white petroleum jelly,
  6. cetyl alcohol,
  7. glycerol 85%,
  8. liquid paraffin,
  9. all-rac-alfa-tokoferol,
  10. distilled water.

Fucidin – when to use?

Fucidin helps in the treatment of, among others:

  1. impetigo (blisters on the skin filled with liquid, which, when ruptured, form a characteristic honey-colored scab),
  2. furunculosis (a dermatological condition manifested by numerous boils, i.e. pus-containing inflammation in the hair follicles and on the surrounding skin),
  3. folliculitis (eruptions in the form of painless lumps or pustules in the area of ​​the hair follicles, most often observed under the armpits, around the womb, on the buttocks, face or on the scalp; the likelihood of their occurrence increases after depilation or shaving, and if left untreated it may turn into in furunculosis),
  4. inflammation of the sweat glands (if there is pain – e.g. in the armpits – and enlarged lymph nodes, and the nodules surround reddish rims or an abscess),
  5. parotid (purulent inflammation associated with bacterial infection around the nail fold, manifested by sharp pain in the affected area and inflammation in the form of pus-like swelling),
  6. common acne (a disease of adolescence, during which – due to the hyperactivity of the androgin hormone – the sebaceous glands are excessively stimulated; the symptoms are most often numerous comedones, pimples and papules, commonly referred to as pimples or blackheads).

Fucidin inhibits the synthesis of bacterial proteins and thus prevents the growth, multiplication and spread of bacterial cells.

Fucidin – dosage

Unless your doctor prescribes a different dosage, Fucidin should be applied topically to the lesions two to three times a day. The recommended treatment period should be 7 days.

  1. If you use more Fucidin than you should

No cases of overdose following topical administration have been reported. If you feel unwell after an overdose, consult your doctor.

  1. If you forget to use Fucidin

If you miss a dose, do not take a double dose to make up. The drug should continue to be used according to the established schedule.

Fucidin – contraindications

The main contraindication to the use of Fucidin is allergy to one or more components of the drug, including the sodium salt. The ointment must not be applied to open wounds. Caution is also advised when taking other antibiotics.

It is important to observe if there are any new infections – if so, it may mean that there are strains of bacteria in our body that have become resistant to the active substance contained in Fucidin. If we notice such disturbing symptoms, we should consult a doctor as soon as possible.

The preparation – regardless of whether it is applied in the form of a cream or ointment – can cause a local skin reaction, including (contact) dermatitis.

Fucidin, however, does not affect concentration or motor coordination, which means that after using it, you can drive vehicles and operate various types of machines.

Note:

Fucidin is not recommended for use by pregnant women, unless otherwise indicated by a doctor. The same goes for breastfeeding.

Fucidin – side effects

Side effects that may or may not occur with Fucidin are:

  1. relatively rarely: rash, skin irritation, itching at the application site,
  2. very rarely: conjunctival irritation, hypersensitivity, contact dermatitis, angioedema, hives, eczema, erythema, swelling of the eye socket, burning sensation or even burning of the skin.

Fucidin – interactions with other drugs

Always tell your doctor or pharmacist what prescription drugs, over-the-counter drugs, or herbal products are already being taken. There is no information on drug interactions between Fucidin and other drugs. The doctor individually assesses the risk of using the drug in the patient.

Fucidin – use on intimate places

Fucidin, in most cases, can also be used on intimate places. Due to the fact that the skin in these places is extremely delicate and more severe adverse reactions may occur, it is recommended to ask the doctor about a specific use case.

The cost of Fucidin depends on the amount of preparation we want to buy. The price of the smallest package (5 grams) ranges from PLN 13 to PLN 26, depending on the website. Prices may be lower in pharmacies. It is worth considering buying a larger package (Fucidin also comes in 15 grams and 20 grams), as long as the price is similar to the cost of a smaller package (in the case of fifteen grams, the cost ranges between PLN 22 and 28).

You will need a prescription from your doctor to buy Fucidin. Fucidin is widely available in pharmacies, buying it shouldn’t be a problem. It is also possible to order it or buy it online.

  1. Përshëndetje kam sa pucrra ne lekuren e penisit ,kërpudhat ose ndryshe balantis. Disa Jan me qelb ,disa mendoj se jam infeksion. Tek ato me qelb nese përdor fucidin do te keqe ndonje problem.
