Fruits and vegetables: the reflexes to take care of our planet and your health

Discover the advice of our dietitian to adopt the right actions to choose the best fruits and vegetables for your health and for our planet.

Seasonality

You know it: each fruit and vegetable has its season. However, it is not always easy to find your way around in supermarkets as the shelves are crowded all year round with fruits and vegetables that should not be found there. The first instinct, if you want to take care of your health and make eco-responsible purchases, is to provide yourself with a calendar of seasonal fruits and vegetables. You will find it very easily on the Internet and you can certainly even ask your market gardener for one. You have understood it: the priority in terms of healthy and citizen food is to buy only fruits and vegetables in season.

Made in France !

The second reflex to adopt is to always check the origin of your fruits and vegetables. Ideally, of course, opt for products grown in France: you will encourage the country’s economy and significantly reduce the carbon footprint due to the transport of food. And if you are keen on doing it right: opt for local fruits and vegetables. Because in addition to encouraging producers in your region, you will be assured that the fruit was picked at full maturity and that it did not ripen during transport to the reserves of a truck.

Organic… but not only!

We hear a lot about organic, which is sometimes controversial depending on the country of origin in particular! Once again: look to small producers and choose a producer who cultivates his products in sustainable agriculture. With this method of cultivation, the producer undertakes to respect the products, the consumer and the environment at the same time by not using, or very little, pesticides and fertilizers. If he has to use any, they will be products of natural origin. A good point for your health and for our planet!

As raw as possible!

No more salads in sachets, grated carrots in trays and already cut fruit! These products are the perfect example of fruits and vegetables with low nutritional value. Choose only raw products, that is to say the least processed possible. You will take full advantage of their richness in fiber, vitamins, minerals and anti-oxidants!
