Frost and sun: winter hand care

Hands are a visiting card of a woman, and not to follow them, not to pamper them is simply indecent. We talk about caring for the skin of hands in winter, when everything seems to be against them – the cold, the wind, and our dislike for mittens and gloves.

Features of skin care in winter

Before we give advice on caring for the skin of the hands in winter, let’s say that at this time of the year it suffers the most. And even if we remember to put on gloves, most likely, after a few minutes they will have to be removed – to get the keys, phone or travel card. “And these sharp transitions from warm and dry to humid and cold air are detrimental to the hands,” explains expert dermatologist Garnier Marina Kamanina. – Skin instantly:
  • dries;

  • coarsens;

  • blushes;

  • peel off;

  • covered in chicks.

But everything can be changed if, in winter, you devote a little more time to caring for your hands than usual. By the way, what do you know about skin care? Test yourself by answering our quiz questions.

How to take care of your hands in winter at home

Globally, winter hand skin care is no different from summer: you also regularly do manicures, take care of your cuticles, put on protective gloves during cleaning, take soothing baths on weekends … Unless you have to use hand cream more often – not only before bedtime, but also in the morning, before going outside, then in the office, to ensure reliable protection of hands in winter. And, perhaps, your favorite moisturizer should be replaced with a denser nourishing or protective one.

Cosmetical tools

Without exaggeration, the cream is one of the most necessary products for hand skin care, which has been repeatedly proven by scientific research. In winter, it should constantly “live” on a shelf in the bathroom, live in your purse, stand on your desktop so that you can soften and moisturize your skin at any time. You can take care of your hands not only at home, but also at work, at a party, on the road. Below are Healthy-Food’s favorite winter creams. If you have tried them too, share your impressions in the comments!

Home remedies

Masks for hand care in winter are also used. And any of them can be turned into a compress by wearing cotton gloves over it. However, we at Healthy-Food are rather skeptical about homemade, homemade masks. They are nowhere near as effective as store-bought ones, less comfortable, and can cause an allergic reaction. But if you suddenly decide to make this recipe from the network, keep in mind that:
  • The ideal time for a mask is evening. When all household chores have been redone and there is no longer any need to run anywhere (especially in the cold);

  • applying the mask, you can do a light massage, distributing it with soft stroking movements from the wrist to the fingertips;

  • You should not refuse the cream anyway, the mask is just an additional care.

Applying a cream or mask, do a light massage.

Salon treatments for winter hand skin care

We often go to the salon to get a manicure, but we usually neglect hand procedures – in extreme cases, we agree to them as a nice bonus. Maybe in vain, and it is worth reconsidering your attitude towards them?
Check at the same time which cosmetic procedure you need.

Paraffin therapy. Warm paraffin is simply applied to the hands. The paraffin film steams the skin, causes sweating, and then is removed along with dead cells. The result – the skin becomes softer, tender, velvety.

Hand baths depending on the active ingredients, they can be relaxing, soothing, toning, restoring. Of course, they can be made at home, but in the salon it is more effective: the mixtures that are used there are more concentrated and balanced.

Mesotherapy refers to anti-aging procedures. The skin of the hands is chipped with a special composition that activates blood flow and cell regeneration, as a result, the skin becomes younger and tightens before our eyes.

Helpful winter hand care tips

In order for your hands to always look well-groomed, follow a number of rules for caring for your hands in winter (many of them are relevant not only for winter, but in general all year round):
  1. Wash them with warm water only: neither cold nor hot is suitable for this. After washing, do not rub, but gently blot with a towel.

  2. Use mild soap without aggressive additives (antibacterial is not the best option).

  3. Wear gloveswhen you are cleaning, doing laundry or washing dishes. But try not to wear rubber gloves for more than 5-10 minutes: the skin begins to sweat and then dry. If there is a lot of cleaning, put on cotton gloves under rubber gloves and / or lubricate your hands with cream.

  4. Use varnishes and “washes” for nails acetone free.

  5. Regularly (2-3 times a day if the skin is very dry) apply a nourishing or protective cream. Use oil to strengthen brittle and dry nails by rubbing it into the nail plate and the skin around it before going to bed.

  6. Going out into the street (even if you plan to immediately get into the car), wear gloves. In order not to remove them when you need to make a phone call, buy special touch-sensitive gloves for gadgets.

  7. Use your dryer with care for hands in public places – it may be better to blot the skin with a tissue.
