From the ecology of the body to the ecology of the world: Biotherm pushes the boundaries

Global issues can only be resolved through joint efforts. However, not all of us are environmentally conscious and feel the problems of the planet as keenly as our own. The French brand Biotherm went into the open ocean so that the Earth would not lose its blue color.

Biotherm Water Lovers is a special project in the history of the cosmetic brand, and not at all accidental. It is biotechnology that made Biotherm famous all over the world, and thermal water endowed the brand’s beauty products with the power that helps the skin fight the negative factors of the urban environment. The main mission of the project was the Aquapower Expedition: on April 8, the Biotherm Homme team boarded a ship off the coast of the French island of Guadeloupe in the Caribbean to spend two months in the waters of the Atlantic. The environmental initiative of the premium cosmetic brand was supported by the world-famous German surfer Florian Jung and the German marine biologist Frauke Bagusche.

The Horrifying Truth About Ocean Pollution

For 72 days, the crew collected samples of ocean pollution, cleaned beaches from household and man-made debris, and caught wind during windsurfing lessons. You can see how it was in Florian Jung’s video diaries on YouTube and following the hashtags #AquapowerExpedition #FlorianJung #Biothermrussia on social networks. On World Ocean Day, June 8, the team moored in Marseille (France).

“Today, there are more than 5 trillion extraneous non-degradable plastic objects in the oceans, enough to cover the entire coastline on the planet with them. Just think! We are destroying our main source of life,” says Florian Jung. The athlete recalls how one day, once in Bali, he saw muddy water contaminated with waste. At that moment, he felt that the mighty element, which gave him the joy of movement and self-realization, was powerless before the irresponsibility of man. So the enthusiasm with which Jung took part in the expedition arose quite naturally.

Biotherm’s initiative was not limited to water landing. On the occasion of World Ocean Day, the famous AQUASOURCE line of moisturizers has been updated this year. New night cream and eye cream, as well as men’s lip and hand balms from Biotherm appeared in cosmetics stores – even a storm wind is not afraid of the skin with them. The action was called “MissionBlueinTetiaroa”: 100 euros from the total amount of sales will be directed to the ocean biodiversity protection fund in the vicinity of the island of Tetiaroa – the pearl of French Polynesia. Surrounded by greenery, the island was previously owned by Oscar-winning actor Marlon Brando and, later, by Michael Jackson. The large-scale action drew public attention to the problems of the ocean and evoked a response from the brand’s fans. It seems that Biotherm’s ideas now affect not only how we look, but how we feel about the world around us.
