This film is a sharp response to all the thrillers about maniacs and all the «Meeting Places» in the world, which supposedly «cannot be changed.» It’s possible, it’s possible! Zaikin, with his parodic comedy, deforms all examples of genres: the Soviet detective story, the thriller, the vigorous horror, and even Akunin’s prose. His story is about a town where a maniac is operating — a killer of women, an investigator trying to catch him, distraught from his righteous goal, and a potential victim of a maniac turns out to be that little thing … Nikita Vysotsky shines as an investigator (without exaggeration), who plays Gleb Zheglov, brought to to the absolute absurd. The film is literally crammed with parodied quotes either from Tarantino or from the classics of “maniac cinema”. Far from cowardly (and not at all greyish), Zaykin paves the way for our black comedy screen. Against the backdrop of Russian cinema, which has been pathetic for centuries, his film is a breakthrough into the virgin space of healthy irony. But the most amazing thing is that he is really funny. Director: Vladimir Zaikin. Cast: Nikita Vysotsky, Mikhail Efremov and others. Available from April 2nd.
