Cognac of the Russian company SORDIS from French cognac spirits, which are supplied from Champagne and the Rhone Valley. Grape varieties Folle Blanche, Kolombard, Union Blanc were used as wine materials. The manufacturing technology is also French, so the name sounds exactly like this – “French Standard”, although this cognac is produced by an enterprise in Nizhny Novgorod.
Historical reference. It all started in 1968, when, by decree of the Council of Ministers of the USSR, an experimental winery was opened in Nizhny Novgorod to provide the Volga-Vyatka region with alcoholic products. Specialists were invited from the Krasnodar Territory and Stavropol Territory, rich in vineyards.
At first, the company did not work with wine materials, they only bottled wines of the then allied Moldova, Ukraine, and the Caucasus. The plant operated 6 lines and bottled 40 wines and cognacs. When the anti-alcohol campaign began in 1985, the company changed its profile and began bottling mineral water from local wells and Pepsi-Cola.
The Nizhne-Novgorod winery became one of the first enterprises in Russia that passed into the status of joint-stock companies and abandoned state guardianship. In 1999, the plant began to produce vodka and liqueurs, increasing the range and volume every year. Until that time, Kupets vodka has been the company’s signature drink.
In 2004, the plant became the base enterprise of the SORDIS holding.
