According to a report by the National Food Safety Agency, the consumption of salt by the French has decreased, but it is still not an acceptable dose (5g / day). The National Food Safety Agency recalls that “excessive salt intake contributes to many diseases, including high blood pressure and cardiovascular disease.”

A decrease in salt consumption (from 4% to 10%) was observed in 2003 and 2011, where its use in many food products has been restricted.  It is still a long way to reduce salt intake by an additional 15%. Reducing the consumption of this element by about 20% is the optimal element of the daily diet. The average salt intake in France in adults is around 10 g / day in men and 8 g / day in women. However, the salt reduction currently underway is not sufficient to meet the public health targets. It is also recommended to conduct a potential analysis the health effects of lowering the salt intake in your daily diet. ANSES plans to promote a diverse diet.

Sodium plays an important role in the proper functioning of the body, but its daily intake should not be too high. Most of the sodium in our food comes from the salt that is added in the production of many food items, when preparing food, and also at the table before eating them.
