The flu vaccine is free for all adults
The government recently expanded the group of people eligible for free flu vaccines. From November 23, all willing adults can do it. Theoretically.
– We want as many Poles as possible to be willing and able to protect themselves from influenza, which is why from November 23 we are expanding the group that will be able to receive a free vaccine. We are also increasing the number of vaccines in pharmacies – said the Minister of Health, Adam Niedzielski.
«People who want to get free vaccination do not need a referral for the vaccine. All they need to do is report to a selected vaccination point and make an appointment »- we read on the website of the Ministry of Health.

Free vaccinations cover all adults, while children and adolescents are entitled to 50% of vaccinations. discounts. As of November, 50% of the flu vaccine was reimbursed for children and adolescents aged 6 months to 18 years.

Free vaccines are available, among others in Józefów near Warsaw and in one of the vaccination centers in Legnica.
We asked the Ministry of Health and the Government Strategic Reserve Agency how many vaccines are intended for free vaccination and what the supply of these preparations to clinics looks like. Although we sent the e-mails on Thursday, we have not yet received a reply.
Flu in Poland – a lot of illnesses
The current flu season has started exceptionally hard. In September, 370 people fell ill with flu. people, in October 475 thousand. people.
In the first three weeks of November, the number of cases and suspected flu cases was – according to the NIZP-PZH data – over 300 thousand.

However, 2020 was a specific year, marked by the coronavirus pandemic – on the one hand, we took more care to avoid infectious diseases, and on the other – the diagnosis of influenza was severely limited.
In October 2019, 470 fell ill with flu. people, a year earlier it was 398 thousand, and in 2017 – 457 thousand.
The record flu season (counts from September to August of the following year) in recent years is 2017/2018. Then 5 million 415 thousand fell ill. people. At the moment, we have approximately 1 million 145 thousand. illnesses, and it should be remembered that the most infections occur in the winter months, between January and March, and the peak falls in mid-February.
