Free COVID-19 tests at every pharmacy

“From January 27, there will be free antigen tests in every pharmacy” – announced Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki during the Friday press conference. In turn, the Minister of Health, Adam Niedzielski, assured: «We are working on making the availability of testing possible in every pharmacy in Poland. So that every citizen can go into the pharmacy – while going through or feeling unwell – and have the antigen test done ”.

Anyone wishing to perform such a test would fill in the form at home or at a pharmacy and perform an antigen test on this basis, without any referral. While the idea of increasing the test list in this way in the face of the fifth wave of COVID-19 seems good, pharmacists do not yet know what it would be like in practice.

Good idea, but what about execution

The pharmacist Walentyn Pankiewicz from the pharmacy in Białystok referred to the government’s announcement in an interview with TVN 24. – The idea seems to be good. I have concerns about its implementation. Each extension of the number of tests and testing sites is a good idea, but the execution may be a bit worse – he said.

  1. The doctor said it was Omikron. “I know exactly how I got infected”

And he added that he did not know how he could vaccinate healthy people in a pharmacy and let potentially sick people undergo tests at the same time. Adam Niedzielski referred to this issue during a press conference and assured: “We are talking here about a situation in which a room must be separated, certain safety standards must be met, but those pharmacies that are currently carrying out vaccinations – and there are over a thousand of them – they meet such standards, so these are potential candidates for carrying out this testing ».

  1. Omicron in the vaccinated. Who will attack and who will avoid him? There is an answer

It turns out that the government’s announcement comes as a surprise to pharmacists. – For me, this conference was a surprise. In fact, I learned from it that something like this is to come in, there are no guidelines at the moment – said Pankiewicz.

Do you want to test your COVID-19 immunity after vaccination? Have you been infected and want to check your antibody levels? See the COVID-19 immunity test package, which you will perform at Diagnostics network points.

– Everything is probably in the overdue phase, because on the one hand, the Prime Minister said that all pharmacies will be tested, the minister said in a moment that only in pharmacies that conduct vaccinations – summed up the pharmacist and added that he was waiting for the guidelines, because so far he has not received any.
