Friedrich Salomon Perls, also known as Fritz Perls (1893-1970), German-born Jew, psychiatrist, psychotherapist, founder of Gestalt therapy (together with Laura Perls and Paul Goodman )).

Biography
Fritz Perls was born in Berlin in 1893. In 1913 he entered the medical faculty without much interest in this science, but in 1921 he graduated with a doctorate in science.
During the economic crisis in Germany, he emigrated to the United States, and in 1924 he returned and began working as a psychoanalyst. It was from this moment that Perls questioned the perfection of Freud’s theory of psychoanalysis.
In 1930 he marries Laura Posner; two joint children, Renata and Stephen.
In 1933, after the Hitler regime came to power, Fritz Perls, Laura and their eldest child Renata fled to the Netherlands, and a year later they emigrated to South Africa, where Fritz worked with his wife Laura on his book Ego, Hunger and aggression» (first published in 1942).
In 1942, Fritz joined the South African Army, where he served as a psychiatrist with the rank of captain until 1946.
In 1946, Perls moved to New York, and in 1960 to California, where he worked as a member of the Esalen Institute in Big Sur.
