We get information that SMS with this content is sent to young people who are not entitled to the fourth dose. From July 22, people 60+ and people 12+ with reduced immunity can vaccinate. What does it all mean? We asked the Ministry of Health about it.

The Ministry of Health is sending SMSs about the fourth dose to younger Poles. What does it mean?
In the era of the wave caused by the most infectious mutation of the coronavirus BA.5 so far, questions about the next dose of the COVID-19 vaccine have returned. From April 20 in Poland, this possibility could be used by, inter alia, people over 80 years of age. From July 22, the fourth dose can also be taken by people aged 60+ and with reduced immunity after the age of 12.
“In the morning, we started sending over 4,3 million SMSes to people who could benefit from the fourth dose of the COVID-19 vaccine” – on July 27, the Minister of Health, Adam Niedzielski, informed.
It turns out, however, that information encouraging vaccination is also provided to younger Poles who – according to the current guidelines – cannot sign up for a second booster. One of our editorial colleagues received this SMS. “CAUTION. You can already sign up for the next dose of the COVID-19 vaccine. Sign up for a vaccination today. Find out more at drukimysie.pl and at 989 (Helpline of the National Vaccination Program – ed.) ».
Why does the Ministry of Health send information about vaccination to people who do not have the right to do so at the moment? Is it a mistake, and maybe people under 60 can take the fourth dose? We asked the Ministry of Health about it. We received the following answer:
«SMS messages informing about the possibility of receiving another dose of the COVID-19 vaccine were sent to the telephone number provided by the person receiving the vaccination during the prior registration. If the person did not give their number, for example a family member, the SMS was sent to this number. Thus, there may be cases where an SMS with information about the adoption of the next dose of the vaccine will be sent to a telephone number that is not owned by a person aged 60+ or 12+ with immunity disorders ».
This was the case of our friend who registered her mother for the vaccination.
«In the answer given, MZ reminds us:« Currently, the second booster dose can be taken by people aged 60+ and 12+ with immunity disorders. We will keep you informed about changes in the scope of eligible persons ».
