Analysts from Imperial College London in London collected data on COVID-19 symptoms in various age groups for six months. They found that some symptoms of the coronavirus are more common in young people, while others are typical of adults. Researchers also point to four symptoms of COVID-19 that should be on the symptom list.

New COVID-19 symptoms. Scientists made a list
The research by analysts at Imperial College London ran from June 2020 to January 2021. REACT collected data from over a million people infected with the coronavirus in the UK.

The analysis of the collected data shows that the most common symptoms of COVID-19 infection are fever and loss of taste and smell. Researchers found that over 60 percent of people who tested positive, had no symptoms of the coronavirus.
As part of the study, researchers found that patients repeat four symptoms of COVID-19, which until now have not been taken into account in official guidelines. This is headache, muscle pain, chills and loss of appetite. Interestingly, these symptoms are specific to specific age groups.
Symptoms of COVID-19 in Teens and Adults
It turns out that while chills are present in both young people and older patients, other symptoms of the coronavirus affect only strictly separated groups. Headache as a symptom of COVID-19 occurs only in children and adolescents (aged 5 to 17). In turn, the loss of appetite only affects adults (with a wide age range, from 18 to 55). Muscle pain was also more common in adults. In turn, symptoms of COVID-19 such as cough and fever have been reported rarely in young people.
It should be emphasized, however, that these are statistical data and relate to a selected group of people. Scientists are still researching COVID-19, and the most common conclusion is that the disease causes a wide variety of symptoms and varies from person to person.
Polish list of COVID-19 symptoms. Some of the symptoms are surprising
Doctors from the Medical University of Lodz are also conducting their research into the symptoms of COVID-19. The questionnaire, which takes only three minutes to complete, is available on the website www.filomycovid.pl. All people who have experienced the coronavirus can participate in the study. So far, the test has been completed by over 600 people.

The list of symptoms identified by doctors from the Medical University of Lodz includes, among others dry mouth, hypersensitivity to touch and even fainting. A big surprise was also the presence on the list of reduced body temperature (below 36 degrees C), which concerned as much as 40 percent. respondents.
As REACT director Paul Elliott acknowledges, compiling a complete list of COVID-19 symptoms is of the utmost importance in containing the pandemic. In his opinion, at this stage, many people with coronavirus do not get tested because they do not know that there is something wrong with them. As a result, they are not in isolation, but function normally, and unconsciously infect their relatives or co-workers. Elliott hoped that REACT’s COVID-19 symptom list would allow a more effective patient testing strategy to be implemented.
