Makeup bases are loved by makeup artists, but these products rarely take root in cosmetic bags of ordinary beauty users. But in vain, because modern primers are designed for all skin types and are useful both in terms of aesthetics and in terms of competent care.

Why you need a makeup base

Makeup base, or primer, is a light product, usually without a tinting effect, which is used before applying foundation or powder. This product is capable of many things:

  • prolong the durability of makeup;

  • visually smooth the relief of the skin;

  • correct color nuances.

The primer usually contains oils, glycerin, shining particles.

What are the functions of the base

Choose a primer according to the task you want to solve.

  • With the help of absorbent and sebum-regulating components, the foundation reduces sebum production. This allows you to extend the durability of makeup and delay the appearance of oily sheen for several hours.

  • Due to nourishing and moisturizing ingredients such as oils, glycerin and hyaluronic acid, the primer removes peeling, moisturizes and nourishes skin.

  • Primers-color correctors contain pigments that allow correct color unevenness skin. Red will hide blue circles under the eyes, green – redness, and pink will add freshness to a dull face.

  • Silicone bases visually smooth the skin. They fill pores and fine linesmaking them almost invisible. As a result, the tonal foundation or powder lays down in a more even layer.

Choose a makeup base according to your skin type.

How to choose a primer

First of all, focus on your individual characteristics, because now makeup bases are being developed taking into account the needs of each skin type.

  • For dry skin

A good choice would be a make-up base that guarantees hydration: it will enhance the effect of the cream and create an additional barrier between the skin and the foundation, which often dries it.

  • For oily skin

The age-old problem of oily skin is shine in the forehead and nose, the appearance of which can be delayed for a decent time thanks to matting primers. They will also make your makeup last longer.

  • For combination skin

Usually, this skin only shines in the T-zone, so you can only use mattifying primers in this area. You can also distribute the silicone base there: it will smooth and visually reduce the pores.

  • For problem skin

It is characterized by inflammation and redness. A green corrector will help to mask the red pigment, but be careful: when applied to the whole face, it will give an ugly earthy tone, so use such products pointwise.

Primers are silicone, moisturizing, matting.

Types of primers

And now let’s talk about what makeup bases exist on the market and what you should pay attention to when choosing them.

Matting

Oil control is controlled by the drying action of alcohol and absorbent ingredients such as talc. It is important not to overdry oily skin – this will only make it produce even more sebum.

When using mattifying primers on a regular basis, do not neglect moisturizing.

Silicone

Fill in irregularities, visually smoothing them. But not every skin likes silicones. Sometimes these products cause clogged pores and inflammation.

Shading

The most controversial category of all presented. By neutralizing redness, you can get a gray spot, so makeup artists recommend applying green color correctors not to the entire face, but only locally.

As for pink primers, they will not suit skin with closely spaced vessels, as they will only emphasize redness.

Moisturizers

These bases are unlikely to harm dry skin, but can contribute to clogged pores on oily skin due to the high oil content.

Primer Composition

Below is a brief list of the main components that can be included in the make-up base.

  1. Alcohol – an aggressive substance that cosmetics manufacturers still include in matting products.

  2. Talc absorbs fat.

  3. Mika — mother-of-pearl particles of especially fine grinding, giving the skin a radiance.

  4. Silicones smooth out unevenness and form a protective barrier between the skin and foundation.

  5. Oils, glycerin and other moisturizers soften the skin and prepare it for makeup.
