PSYchology

There are many situations where the question of congenital factors is very relevant. Thanks to science: today, research is already available for each of us, which, having made a genetic analysis of your blood, will warn you in advance about the risk of certain dangerous diseases. So what? Your business is only to contact these specialists in a timely manner, you yourself do not need to understand the issue of genetics and congenital diseases.

Another situation. Suppose you know that you will not have children of your own, and you are thinking about adopting a child. You have heard that children in boarding schools can have a very unfavorable heredity: retardation in intellectual development, uncontrolled affects, a tendency to vagrancy, theft and alcoholism.

And now you are wondering how much you need to believe this? Is the innate factor really that strong? And, most importantly, how to understand what this has to do with the children whose medical records are now in front of me?

How to figure it out?

Without special training — almost nothing. You do not know what to look for in these medical records, you do not know what additional questions you need to ask about the child and his parents. For example, how old was mom when mom gave birth? If they are 18 years old, the children are rather healthy, and if they are 40 years old, there is a high probability that the mother already drank and was on drugs. And how long was the baby in the orphanage without a mother? If more than a year, the situation is bad. But if you show the children to a qualified doctor, he will be able to say something important after the examination. And now attention: all this is extremely important, but this is not about the fact that the child is transmitted with genes. There are already a lot of acquired problems that a child could get both during the mother’s pregnancy and during her stay in the orphanage — but you wanted to deal with congenital ones?

Leave these questions to theorists, you are interested in something else. It doesn’t matter to you whether it is congenital or acquired, it is important for you how healthy the child is and what his development prospects are. Will he master higher education — or is there no hope? How to define it?

I answer seriously: no. You can’t define it. Almost the only way for you to understand what opportunities and what limitations a given child has, what his inclinations and inclinations are, is to start interacting with him. Play with him, teach him, educate him. Start living with it. Only in a situation of interaction between a child and an adult, observing what and how the child catches from what you give him, you can truly understand the characteristics of a particular child. And the more talented you work with the child, the more you will understand for yourself and be able to do for the child.

But the price for this experiment with unpredictable results is your life. Big piece of your life.
