Fortuneteller’s prediction: a case from the life of a former thief

😉 Greetings to subscribers and visitors of the site! “Fortune Teller’s Prediction: A Case from the Life of a Former Thief” is a real story from the life that happened to Stepan many years ago.

The fortuneteller’s prophecy

Once young Stepan stole something and got caught. Before the trial I could not find a place for myself. All this time he lived under recognizance not to leave. Parents drank it and did not try to help their son. The father only said:

– If you don’t know how to steal, don’t go!

And then one of the comrades prompted Stepan to go to the wise seer and gave him the address. He went – he had nothing to lose. The fortune-teller turned out to be very old and half-blind. Stepan was ashamed to confess to theft, and he lied that he had fallen in love, and came to the witch, supposedly to find out the future. The diviner spreads her cards and says:

– That’s not why you, boy, came. And you do not dry out because of love, but out of fear. A long road and a state house are waiting for you. They will deceive you greatly. And you will be punished not only for your own fault, but also for someone else’s.

She said and fell silent. The old fortune teller was silent for a long time, and then continued:

“But you have a chance. Until the very trial, do not open the door to anyone. Then everything will work out for you. And I won’t be able to speak to you out of all these troubles, because you have a cross on your shoulder.

And whoever will pin it on himself will carry it all his life. And not a single healer will undertake to treat a person with such a tattoo. Now go and remember that no one can open doors before the trial! Stay quiet for a while.

Unexpected guest

In the morning there was a knock on the door. Sleepily, Stepan forgot about the fortuneteller’s warning yesterday and opened it. On the threshold stood a decent-looking man, solidly dressed, with a daddy in his hands.

– I would like to talk with you, – he says, and he himself shifts from foot to foot, it is clear that he is very worried. He was silent for a while and began to “process” Styopa. Almost crying, he told me what a good, decent son he had.

Studying at the institute as a lawyer. And it must be the same, quite accidentally committed a crime. Rather, it was not even he who did it, but he was set up. And in no case should he spoil his reputation, they will be trampled on from the institute right away.

Take, he says, the crime of your son on yourself, and he will not remain in debt – he will pay a lot of money. And in six months, they will also release you from prison, since he has great connections, and chickens do not peck money.

Styopa pondered, and then answered:

– Well, let him pull himself out for his money, especially with such and such connections. What have I got to do with it?

And he answered:

– Yes, you understand, he cannot have a criminal record – they will immediately be expelled from the institute and then they will not get a job. What have you got to lose? Your reputation is already ruined. Yes, understand, you will be jailed for theft anyway. And so at least you will earn some money and you will save a good man.

In six months, your son will definitely pull you out, and I’ll throw some money on the apartment, he’ll have his own roof over his head. I’ll give my old car – you’ll be a taxi driver.

He spoke very convincingly and eventually persuaded the naive guy. So the fortuneteller’s prediction came true: Stepan opened the door to his grief. He was punished in full – both for his own and someone else’s guilt. And, of course, no one pulled him out of prison. And, of course, he did not receive any money.
