Fortrans – is it on prescription? Specific indications for use

Fortrans is a drug used in gastroenterology as a preparation for a diagnostic examination or surgery on the large intestine. The preparation affects the digestive system – it has a laxative effect. Fortrans is available as a dissolving solution and can only be obtained with a prescription.

Indications for the use of Fortrans

The active substance of the preparation is macrogol. Fortrans is given to patients as a preparation for endoscopic and radiological examinations – it cleans the colon.

Dosage in Adults: 1 liter of an appropriately prepared solution for 15-20 kg body weight, i.e. usually 3-4 liters (can be taken as a single dose, i.e. 3-4 liters of the solution in the evening before the procedure, or in 2 divided doses, e.g. 2 liters in the evening on the day before the procedure and 2 liters in the early morning on the day of the procedure, so as to finish taking the preparation 3-4 hours before the examination or procedure).

Fortrans and contraindications

A contraindication to the use of Fortrans is hypersensitivity to any component of the preparation or to polyethylene glycol.
