Metetic is a drug in the form of tablets used in the pharmacological treatment of diabetes.

The active substance in Metetic is melformin hydrochloride, which affects the metabolism and the functioning of the digestive tract.
Action of the drug Formetic
Formetic increases the sensitivity of cells to insulin, reduces the absorption of glucose in the intestines and reduces the amount of glucose produced in the liver. Formetic reduces the absorption of glucose both in the fasting and after a meal. It does not stimulate insulin secretion and does not cause hypoglycaemia. The active substance in the drug, i.e. metformin, reduces the secretion of glucose in the liver, increases the sensitivity of muscle cells to insulin and delays the absorption of glucose in the gut. Metformin also stimulates intracellular glycogen synthesis and facilitates its transport. It also demonstrates the ability to reduce the concentration of total cholesterol and triglycerides. It also has a beneficial effect on skin lesions such as acne and regulates menstrual cycles.
Indications for the use of Formetic
Metetic is used in the treatment of type 2 diabetes, especially in those patients who are overweight and in whom attempts to control blood glucose levels through diet and exercise have failed.
Contraindications to the use of the drug Metetic
Formetic should not be used if the patient is allergic to any of the ingredients and in patients suffering from alcoholism.
Contraindication to the use of Metetic is kidney or liver disease, as well as heart failure and respiratory failure.
Taking Formetic should not be combined with taking non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs, oral anticoagulants, oral contraceptives, steroid hormones and thyroid hormones.
Metformin may also have undesirable interactions with other drugs, so before starting therapy with this drug, inform your doctor about all other drugs taken at the time, including those available without a prescription.
The drug Metetic is not recommended for pregnant and lactating women. If the patient is pregnant or planning to become pregnant, Metetic should be discontinued and diabetes treatment with insulin should be started.
How to use Formetic?
Metetic is taken orally during or immediately after meals. The dose and frequency with which you should take the drug is determined by the doctor.
Formetic is intended for adults and adolescents over 10 years of age. It should not be given to children.
Side effects of Formetic
During the use of Meteticin, especially in the initial phase of treatment, side effects such as nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, abdominal pain and anorexia may occur. These symptoms usually disappear after your body gets used to the medicine. Due to this effect of Metetic, it is recommended to gradually increase its dose, which may contribute to its better tolerability in the digestive system.
Other side effects of Metetic are allergic skin reactions such as itchy skin, erythema and hives. Metetic may also cause liver problems and reduce the absorption of vitamin B12. Long-term use of Metformin may lead to the development of lactic acidosis.
Precautions when using the drug Metetic
You should not drink alcohol or take medications containing alcohol during treatment with Metetic. Alcohol increases the effect of the medicine, which can cause a low blood sugar that is hazardous to your health and lactic acidosis, which is a life-threatening condition.
If you miss a dose of Metformin, do not take a double dose to make up for it, as it may also lower blood glucose levels excessively.
During the use of Metetic, you should regularly check the level of sugar in the blood and urine.
If a patient is scheduled to undergo a radiological examination with the use of iodine-based intravenous contrast agents, Metetic should be discontinued 2 days before the examination. You can resume taking it 2 days after the examination.
Metetic has no direct effect on the ability to drive vehicles and operate machinery. However, it can, in some cases, excessively lower blood sugar levels, which can have a real impact on concentration and psychomotor skills.
Metetic should not be used after the expiry date stated on the packaging. The preparation should be stored at room temperature, in a tightly closed container, out of the sight and reach of children.
