Forlax – indications, dosage, contraindications, side effects

Forlax is a drug used to treat constipation with a laxative effect. The active substance of the preparation is a polymer from the macrogol group, which retains water and increases the volume of fluids and loosens the fecal masses. Thanks to these properties, the preparation facilitates defecation. The drug is used in children and adults after 8 years of age. Forlax is a powder for the preparation of an oral solution and is available without a prescription.

Forlax – indications and dosage

Forlax is a drug intended for symptomatic treatment of constipation in children and adults after 8 years of age.

Dosage

Forlax is in the form of a powder for the preparation of an oral solution, do not exceed the recommended dose as it may harm your life or health. The contents of the sachet should be dissolved in 1 glass of water and drunk. The effect of the preparation will appear after 24-28 hours after taking it. In the case of treatment in children, the period of taking the drug should not exceed 3 months.

  1. Adults and children over 8 years of age orally, 1-2 sach./d, preferably in the morning.

Forlax and contraindications

Contraindication to taking Forlax are:

  1. hypersensitivity to any component of the preparation,
  2. severe inflammatory bowel disease (ulcerative colitis, Crohn’s disease),
  3. megacolon toxicum,
  4. gastrointestinal perforation or its risk,
  5. bowel obstruction,
  6. suspicion of mechanical obstruction,
  7. symptomatic narrowing of the intestine,
  8. unexplained abdominal pain.

Forlax – warnings

  1. You should take the drug as an adjunct to non-pharmacological treatment, including, but not limited to, intake of more fluids, bran, adequate diet, adequate physical activity, etc.
  2. Patients with hereditary fructose intolerance should not take the preparation.
  3. People prone to water and electrolyte disturbances (e.g. people with liver or kidney failure, people using diuretics) who have diarrhea should have their electrolyte levels checked.
  4. People with diabetes or on a galactose-free diet may use the drug.
  5. Pregnant and breastfeeding women should consult their doctor before using Forlax.

Forlax – side effects

Taking Forlax may cause:

  1. flatulence
  2. stomach pain,
  3. diarrhea
  4. nausea,
  5. vomiting.

rare hypersensitivity reactions:

  1. itching
  2. hives
  3. rash,
  4. swelling of the face
  5. Quincke’s edema,
  6. isolated cases of anaphylactic shock.
