Forest Workers Day 2022 in Our Country: the history and traditions of the holiday
In autumn we celebrate Forest Workers Day. The holiday of those whose vocation is to protect and increase the green wealth of not only our country, but also our planet

The people who protect and restore our forests are doing an invaluable job. Their contribution to the lives of others is difficult to overestimate, although sometimes we forget about the importance of their work. The Day of Forest Workers, which in Our Country in 2022 will be celebrated by tens of thousands of people, is called to remind about it.

When is Forest Worker’s Day celebrated in Our Country and the world in 2022

Celebrations take place every year on different dates, but it’s always third Sunday of September. In 2022 Forest Worker’s Day falls on 18th number.

The holiday can be considered international, but it is celebrated only in the territories of the former USSR. Currently, this day is considered a holiday in Our Country, Ukraine, Belarus and Kyrgyzstan.

history of the holiday

This holiday is quite young and has been celebrated for only a few decades. It appeared at the turn of the 70-80s of the last century and is timed to coincide with the adoption of the “Forest Legislation”. The people usually call it “Forester’s Day” – this is not entirely true, since not only foresters take care and work with the forest, but also ecologists, botanists, dendrologists and others.

One of the reasons for creating a new holiday is to pay tribute to the workers who preserve and increase our natural wealth.

The second reason is the desire of the state to popularize “forest” professions and motivate young people to study and work in this area.

Every year more and more fires occur in our country, more and more trees are cut down illegally and thoughtlessly. Forest workers are an important and necessary profession at the present time. Their activities help to restore forests after fires and logging, their knowledge helps not to mindlessly destroy plantings, but to cut down only those trees that have become too old or threaten safety. Their experience suggests which trees are best removed so that they do not harm others, and which ones need to be treated and how.

By the way, it is the forestry workers who determine which Christmas trees can be cut down for the New Year and which not.

Holiday traditions

There are practically no special traditions for this day. Among employees of enterprises it is customary to issue certificates and diplomas.

There are local celebrations where each organization decides what and how to do. On this day, it is customary to hold various competitions, for example, in firefighting, orienteering, dendrology, and environmental competitions. Organize seminars or workshops.

On television, they talk about the problems and achievements of the industry, about the importance of ecology and respect for nature.

It would not be out of place on this day to pay a little more attention to the ecology and flora around us. If it is difficult to do this on a country or city scale, then within your family, organization or circle of friends you can organize subbotniks for cleaning or planting green spaces. But do not forget that it is not enough just to plant trees – you need to take care of them!

It is important to constantly transfer and improve knowledge about trees, how to protect them, plant and grow them so that they eventually turn into a beautiful grove.

Forests are the lungs of our planet, but more importantly, they are our lungs too.
