Recently my wife and I went to the market to choose fruits for our nephew’s upcoming birthday. I began to collect kiwi in the bag, but my wife began to resent. In her opinion, kiwi is too sour and completely unsuitable for a festive children’s table.
I still took a kilogram of this exotic fruit. After all, adults also need to please themselves, even at a children’s party.
Here’s a story decided to share our subscriber Vitaly.
What ingredients and equipment will be needed
Since in Russia it is not customary to celebrate without alcohol, I wanted to treat the adult half of the guests with an unusual drink.
Kiwi tincture is prepared with just 2 ingredients, no complicated equipment is required. It is enough to have standard kitchen utensils at hand – a knife, a wooden board, any glass container (cylinder, pan or bottle).
For the preparation of a small volume of tincture, I recommend the following proportions:
- vodka “Talka” – 0,5 l (140 rubles per bottle);
- kiwi – 5 pcs. (bought on the market for 80 rubles).
Kiwi fruits for my recipe need fresh ones, in no case use frozen or canned pieces. Choose the most ripe and soft. But not spoiled, without signs of rot.
Choose only soft, ripe kiwi fruit. From a poor-quality main ingredient, it will not be possible to prepare a good tincture.
I recommend not to take too hard fruits for tincture. Unripe fruits will not give the required volume of juice and the taste will not be saturated enough.
The cooking process
I thoroughly wash the kiwi fruits under hot running water. I cut off the peel in a thin layer, cut the flesh into medium-sized cubes.
Do not cut the kiwi too finely, otherwise you will get porridge, and not a normal raw material for tincture. I show in the photo what size is optimal.
I pour kiwi into a glass bottle, fill it with vodka. I tightly close the lid, shake vigorously and put it in a warm dark place for a week.
Since my niece’s birthday is approaching, I am preparing a tincture for guests using the express method. When time allows, I let kiwi vodka brew for at least 3 weeks. The longer the tincture is aged, the more dense the taste and aroma will be in the end.
I open the bottle and stir the contents. I filter through gauze folded in several layers. I close the container, put it in the refrigerator, cool and you can drink.
What will be the result
The color is very delicate, with a slight shade of green. It looks like fruit juice diluted with water. This is not the first time I have made a kiwi tincture and I have already understood that if you insist it longer, it becomes darker in color.
The tincture turns out to be a very delicate shade, with a pleasant aroma and a bright fruity aftertaste.
The aroma is characteristic, clearly gives off the smell of fresh kiwi. Works well with alcohol sillage. But the note of alcohol in a smell nevertheless is traced.
To taste, the tincture turned out with a slight sourness. Vodka is felt only slightly. The duet of kiwi with vodka reminded me of an exotic bar cocktail.
If your taste buds don’t accept the acid in your drink, add a couple of tablespoons of sugar, honey, or sugar syrup after filtering. Then let it brew for 3 more days.
Kiwi tincture is a good budget option for a feast. I spent only 0,5 rubles for the preparation of 220 liters.
How to serve and with what to use tincture
I serve it on the table in beautiful small glasses. Before pouring into portions, the bottle must be cooled. Or you can just throw a piece of ice into the glass. It will make the fruity aftertaste brighter.
Since the tincture tastes moderately sour, it is well suited for a sweet snack. For guests, for example, she went perfectly with a birthday cake. Harmonizes with milk chocolate, eclairs, berries and sweet fruit slices (peaches, apples, raspberries).
I love the classic version of kiwi tincture without added sugar, because according to this recipe it goes amazingly with hot dishes. One of the few homemade drinks I have that goes well with fish. Emphasizes the taste of meat, so this tincture can be safely served at the table.
Kiwi tincture will be a great addition to any table.
I heard the opinion that fruit tinctures are a purely feminine option. For me, kiwi vodka has already become a favorite aperitif. If you know recipes for making tinctures on other fruits, be sure to write them in the comments. I would love to expand my home bar.
