Can we give frozen meals to our baby? Are frozen vegetables as good for their body as fresh? Yes, as long as you know and respect the hygiene measures and the freezing and thawing rules!
Mash, vegetables, fish… Everything can be frozen for baby
Beyond their very practical side, thanks to a presentation in the form of individual servings or small pieces, frozen foods preserve the properties of vegetables, fruits, meat or fish as much as possible: in fact, they are immediately processed at their place of fishing, picking or cutting and therefore retain all their nutrients and their nutritional value. Their nutritional qualities are therefore unchanged. Conversely, fresh products lose their freshness by dint of hanging out on the shelves and in the fridge …
However, frozen foods are not subject to specific legislation for children’s products and you will therefore not find an inscription on their packaging indicating that they are compatible with infant feeding. But in general, we can use frozen vegetables from 4-5 months, provided you choose them without adding salt or fat.
Freezing and thawing conditions
Even more than for adults, we must be particularly vigilant about the storage conditions of frozen foods for babies. When shopping, we buy our frozen foods at the last minute and put them in an insulated bag. We never forget that we must never refreeze thawed food!
On the other hand, if we use fresh frozen foods to cook them, we can freeze our preparations after cooking. the cold chain is not broken.
Meat, pea puree, beef, broccoli, organic dishes: each on their own!
When placing food in the freezer, take care to isolate them from each other: fruits, peas or vegetables cut into pieces must be well separated, each in their insulated bag, Tupperware or glass jar. Thus, they keep better and we can more easily vary the diet of our child by mixing them when defrosting!
