Folik is a medicine used to prevent folic acid deficiency in women before conception and in the first trimester of pregnancy in order to reduce the risk of congenital defects of the neural tube. The active substance of the preparation is folic acid and vitamin B, which are necessary for the proper functioning of the body. The product is in the form of tablets for oral administration and is dispensed without a prescription.

Folik – indications and dosage

Folik is a preparation recommended in the prevention of folic acid deficiency:

  1. in women before a planned pregnancy,
  2. in women in the first trimester of pregnancy to reduce the possibility of congenital defects of the neural tube.

Dosage of the preparation

Folik is in the form of tablets to be taken orally. It is recommended to use the preparation at least one month before conception. Do not exceed the recommended dose as it may endanger your life or health.

  1. Orally 1 tablet / day.

Folik and contraindications

Hypersensitivity to any of the ingredients of the preparation is a contraindication to taking Folik.

Folik – warnings

  1. The preparation Folik can be used during pregnancy and breastfeeding.
  2. Before the next pregnancy, women who have had children with neural tube defects should be provided with genetic counseling, and at least 3 months before pregnancy, supplementation with folic acid at a dose of 4-5 mg / day, as recommended by a doctor.
  3. Folik folic acid in a dose higher than 0,4 mg / day should not be used without excluding megaloblastic anemia, except during pregnancy and breastfeeding, due to the possibility of masking the hematological symptoms of the disease.

The foil and other substances

  1. The effectiveness of folic acid may be reduced by: anti-tuberculosis drugs, ethanol, oral contraceptives, ion exchange resins used in hyperlipidemia, folic acid antagonists (sulfonamides, methotrexate, trimethoprim, pyrimethamine, sulfasalazine).
  2. Simultaneous intake of folic acid and antiepileptic drugs requires monitoring of their concentration due to the change in the rate of their metabolism and the possibility of exacerbation of epilepsy symptoms.

Folik – side effects

While taking Folik, the following may appear:

  1. skin allergic reactions (uncommon)
  2. bitter taste in the mouth
  3. flatulence
  4. nausea,
  5. vomiting,
  6. diarrhea,
  7. lack of appetite
  8. difficulty falling asleep
  9. somnolence,
  10. excessive nervous excitability,
  11. depression,
  12. very rare: angioedema, bronchospasm.
