Foie gras will be banned in New York

New York City Council has overwhelmingly passed a law banning the sale of foie gras in the city from 2022.

Interestingly, New York is the largest market in the country, where they are happy to buy and eat this delicacy, because there are a large number of French restaurants. This decision was made by the authorities in connection with the actions of animal rights activists, because the process by which duck liver becomes large and fatty “the most inhuman process” in the commercial food industry.

That’s what Carlina Rivera, a member of the Manhattan Council who lobbied for a ban on foie gras, called it. She said: “This is one of the most brutal procedures in the world, which is done only to get an expensive product.”

In order for the liver of birds to reach the desired size – increased by 10 times, ducks are force-fed a fatty mixture based on corn through special tubes inserted into the throat. The feeding procedure begins 20 days before slaughter and takes place twice a day, making not only the liver but also the birds themselves too large for them to walk and even breathe.

“The leaders in the production of foie gras in the world are Hungary and China. In huge factories, where ducks sit in tight iron cages, they are forcibly shoved into their throats with metal tubes that can even rupture their esophagus. In 30 seconds, each bird “receives” 200 grams of soy-based mixture with the addition of lard.

By the way, the traditional feeding of ducks in France is quite different: ducks live freely in the fence, and for their feeding are used special non-traumatic machines with a screw mechanism, which is filled with pure corn.

It is known that the sale and production of foie gras has already been banned in California, Britain, Israel and India.
