Fluorography for children: at what age is it possible and at what age it is done
To prevent diseases and diagnose them in the early stages of development, fluorography is used. However, it is important to know from how many years this procedure has been performed for children, whether it is so safe for the child and whether it is possible to refuse it.
Why is fluorography performed for children and how often it is done
Fluorography is a chest x-ray. It is carried out to control tuberculosis, bone skeleton, respiratory system, heart, etc.
It is advisable to hold it every year. Several years ago, the radiation exposure was really significant, but medicine is not standing still. Now, instead of film fluorography, its digital analogue is carried out. It allows several times to reduce the dose of radiation and does not harm the body. In addition, the obtained data are stored in a computer database for 25 years.
You should not give up this procedure, since the benefits from it are much more than harm. However, it is important to know when to do it is safe for the body.
It is important to detect the disease at an early stage. Only in this case it is easier to treat and the patient recovers quickly. Fluorography will not reveal the whole picture of the disease completely. Fluorography is the first step in making a diagnosis. It shows only obvious deviations from the norm. And only then the doctor prescribes further studies.
At what age can the examination be done?
According to the law, X-ray examination is carried out from the age of 15. For young children, ultrasound is used to make a diagnosis. Only in special cases is it possible to carry out fluorography exclusively as prescribed by a doctor.
In general, radiation adversely affects the health of an immature organism. It causes negative manifestations:
- immunity decreases;
- susceptibility to infections grows;
- the development of cancer cells is provoked.
Fluorography is also prohibited during pregnancy, as it harms the developing fetus. It is carried out only in exceptional cases.
However, the adult body can easily tolerate the minimum dose of radiation. And in this case, the advantages of the procedure are obvious. It is indicated for prolonged coughing, pneumonia and questionable reactions to the mantoux test.
Doctors strongly advise to monitor the health of a teenager. Fluorography is one of the ways to do this effectively. However, only parents can decide whether to use it for their child.
