Flunarizinum is a drug used to treat and prevent migraines and dizziness. However, it is not a pain reliever. Flunarizinum is intended to prevent the appearance of migraines or dizziness. Follow the prescribed doses of the drug in order to avoid side effects. The drug must not be used by pregnant women.

Migraines can make everyday functioning very difficult. However, migraine attacks can be avoided by using Flunarizinum. The drug prevents classic migraines, i.e. with aura, ordinary migraines, i.e. without aura, and dizziness.

Flunarizinum – indications

Flunarizinum is a migraine treatment. It is used as an element of prophylaxis in the emergence of classic or ordinary migraine. Moreover, Flunarizinum can be used during the symptomatic treatment of vertigo resulting from vestibular disorders.

Flunarizinum – composition

The active substance of Flunarizinum is flunarizine in the form of flunarizine dihydrochloride. One tablet contains 5 mg of flunarizine. Among the auxiliary substances there are, among others lactose monohydrate.

Flunarizinum – contraindications

Contraindication to the use of Flunarizinum is:

  1. hypersensitivity to any of the components of the drug;
  2. Parkinson’s disease;
  3. pregnancy and lactation;
  4. reported depressive disorders;
  5. reported extrapyramidal symptoms.

Flunarizinum – side effects

Among the most frequently reported side effects of the drug are nervous system disorders, such as drowsiness, fatigue, insomnia, anxiety, gastrointestinal disorders, rashes, galactorrhea, increased appetite, weight gain, depression.

To avoid undesirable effects of Flunarizinum, it is necessary to adhere to the prescribed dose and undergo regular check-ups. If we notice side effects, stop taking the drug.

Flunarizinum – dosage

Flunarizinum is used orally. If the drug is used in the prophylaxis of migraine, 2 tablets should be administered daily at bedtime to people under 65 years of age. If the patient is older, the daily dose is 1 tablet a day at bedtime.

People who tolerate the drug well can use Flunarizinum in the form of maintenance doses. In this case, the drug should be used in the prescribed dose for 5 days and discontinued for the next 2. Treatment with Flunarizinum should not, however, exceed 6 months. Treatment can be repeated when relapse occurs.

Flunarizinum in the treatment of vertigo can be used in the same doses as in the treatment of migraine. However, the drug should not be used for more than 2 months.

In some cases, the patient does not respond to treatment with Flunarizinum, so you should monitor your symptoms and report any concerns to your doctor.

Flunarizinum – precautions

Flunarizinum should not be used while consuming alcohol or drugs that depress the central nervous system. You should also not increase the dose of Flunarizinum due to a migraine attack, as the drug will not stop it.

People over 65 years of age should strictly adhere to the recommended doses as extrapyramidal symptoms and even Parkinson’s disease may appear.

Taking other medications at the same time can also cause extrapyramidal symptoms. If you notice any side effects, stop taking the medicine.

Women during pregnancy and breastfeeding should not use Flunarizinum.
